View Full Version : Anyone running a Ford 300?
I posted this before. Got some info from the Ford six preformance web site, just looking for any input from here.:) I am still working on getting the Ford NP435/Np208,combo and maybe the Jeep NP208.
thinking about this because the 4 banger in the Wrangler is dead. I can swap my 258/T176/NP208 drive line into the YJ and the 300/NP435/NP208 into the Chero.:)
any thoughts welcome

thought about this, putting a fuel injected 300 6 cyl would be a good idea, good motor, how to bolt up to a t19? would a ford bell housing work?

You make it sound like you've researched this?

IIRC the 240/300 is the same bell pattern as the Ford passenger car V8s - why is the truck bell required?

I think it's deeper than the car bellhousing.
When I was a kid, we had a 22 ft class-A motorhome that had a 300 six in it. We weren't winning any drag races with it, but it ran great for years.

That makes sense. Thanks for feeding my curiousity.

good info, I guess the next question is will the post t18 trucks, after 87 I understand, still bolt up to the t18, instead of the mazda 5 speed?
I like the sound of the V8 and 6cyl bellhousing the same bolt pattern. I also found that if you can get the hyd master and slave clutch cyl for a 89 Ford turuck, swap out the slave cylinder piston from a Wrangler slave, they will bolt right up to the T18 and NP 435.:D Something about the Wrangler one being longer than the truck one, thus allowing better pushing of the clutch fork.
Actually found a FI 300 for $250.00 with all the acc. and the wire harness, just need to find a ECM and how to do a electric fuel pump?? Now to talk with the Mrs finance. I might be able to get the engine, tranny and xfr case for under $500.00, I need to jump on this NOW!!

Yes...the bellhousing bolt pattern didn't change when the went to Mazda and ZF S-542. IIRC both of those transmissions had intergal bellhousings. So...just find a 86 down bellhousing..good to go.

I gotcha beat..the EFI motor [complete-all accessories/wiring harness and computer]/[bellhousing I've been dragging around with me for 30+ yrs]/T19 [with PTO] and NP205 cost me less than $300. :drivin:

Has anyone tried a good old Slant Six 225? I know they may be a bit under powered, but you can squeak a lot out of them.

I had a 85 f-150 with an inline 6, it had a deal with eating water pumps, just thought I would FYI, also liked starters, but was a great motor besides that!!!

You might be able to get away with using the frame mounted fuel pump off of a (about) '89-'90 Ford P/U. IIRC they used another pump in the tank in conjunction with it.
