what if any r the differances between a 76 and78 cherokee chief? were there any upgrades such as brakes, axles, transfer case, etc, etc. ?

i currently own a 76 but have located a 78 with a better body and interior, it doesnt have the motor, but i already have a 401 im building. just looking for some extra ammunition for when i go to battle with the better half on whether or not i can bring it home.

There should be very little differences between the two. Unless of course, one has the QT and the other has a T18. Or, one is a WT and the other a NT. One thing different...78 was the first year with the Ford Motorcraft distribitor and ignition module. Other than that, I can't think of any other differences offhand. Maybe someone else will chime in.

In addition to the ignition change (for the better), the alternator changed from the externally-regulated Motorcraft unit to the internally-regulated Delco unit. And the floorpan changed for more legroom, but that's it; everything else besides trim details should be identical. Oh, and by '78, front disc brakes were standard, whereas before you got front drums standard and discs were optional. But the '76 may have the flat-top passenger-side steering-knuckle, which the '78 will lack.

my 77 wasnt ordered with disk brakes and it came with them. as well as the externally regulated alt.
