I am working on my 77 wag. Its 401/4bbl/T-400,low,low miles and has Q-trac, and 354 gears. I just got a 72 parts wag w/360/T-400,D-20,etc.
How much hassle will it be to convert the q-trac to D-20? They both have T-4oo's and same family motors. Has anyone had any success with this conversion? Any surprises to expect? Thanks,Tony

It can be done, you'll have to swap th400's and t cases, probably driveshafts if theyre not the same length. One thing you'll need to check is clearance for the gas tank. Next you'll have a centered output with the dana20 t case and a off set rear end which is still do able but what is the ratio of the rear in the 72? If its the same I'd swap it too.
Long story short its do able but its gonna be alot of work. The output shaft on the tranny for the q-trac is not compatible with anything else so thats what complicates things.

I thought that others have done this swap and not had any problems using a dana 20 with a QT offset rear. I also believe that even the dana 20 rears had a slight amt of offset, just not as much as a QT-equipped rig.

But if you have the matching rear and its the right gear also it would just make for a better match. I guess thats what I was getting at. ;)

I did the QT/D20 swap with offset QT D44 out back... no problems.... but the gas tank issue is....

if your TH400 is good.... swap the tailshafts between the 400's and use the D20 and adapter....

Does anyone know which t-case gives more clearance for the exhaust pipe? With a QT 2.5" is about all you can run. A 3" pipe is a real tight fit, though some have done it. Just curious if the possibly the Dana 20 is more compact and provides more space.

Be sure to inspect the mounting ears on the Dana 20 adapter. They are perhaps the weak link on this set up.

The quadra trac is a good case. So is the 20. But you might want to hang on to the quadra trac and it's tranny just in case.....

What kinda problems are we expecting with the gas tank? This rig was a nice setup, so it has dual tanks(volume unknown). Will I have to delete one of the tanks? The second tank is where the spare mounts...
