I'm going to need some 16" rims here in the near future. Since I grew up in the world of 16.5's, I have very little insight into this.
So here's my void...

Must be steel and cheap.

Need not be fancy.

Probably going to run 35 x 12.5's
Do they make tires that size in a 16?

I have always run 12.5's on an 8" rim, never had a problem.
If I decided to go 38's, should I just get 10's to start with?

Back spacing, what goes correctly on the J20, 8 lug, rear 60/front hd44 combo?

Some links would help also folks, this is all new to me.
TIA

Here's a link that could help with info, even though their stuff doesn't look inexpensive:

I have not had any luck finding a 16" rim to fit the old 5x5.5"bolt pattern and center hole size on my truck.

I know you're looking for the 8-lug J20 pattern, but I wonder if companies just aren't making anything that will fit that since I have a feeling the new 8 lug pattern on, say, a super duty might not be the same. Not sure though.

I've been talking with a good local shop near me, and the guy's American Racing rep said they just don't make new 16" wheels to fit the old patterns.

So, besides that, I'm in almost the same boat that you are. I just saw a 1970 J4000 for sale with 8-lug stock steel wheels, but they are just really narrow.

hey, tad, when I put my 38's on my J-20 axles under my chero, you can have my rims & tires, 16x? stock white steel, for $50 + shipping, if wanted. Will send w/ out tires if wanted.

Here is a 16x8, your choice of 5 on 5 1/2, 6 on 5 1/2, or 8 on 6 1/2.
