I have an 81 Wagoneer with a 1986 258v6 in it. There is a Clifford valve cover on the engine. It is blowing oil out all over the place thru the top openings and no matter what I've tried so far it won't stop doing it. Right now I have put the pcv valve in the rear hole and in the middle hole I have a removable breather so I can easily pull it out to put oil in. I have plugged up the front hole with an expandable 1 1/4 hole plug. The troble is the breather is blowing out oil and smoke so bad it's filling up the passenger compartment with oily smoke. My understanding is that the rear hole should be connected to the rear of the cover on the carb air fliter cover, the middle hole should be the pcv valve connected to the hose at the base of the carb, and the front hole should be for a filler cap - right???? But - when I connect a hose to the rear hole of the valve cover to the air filter cover the engine blows the carb full of oil - is there a check valve that should be in this line to stop this????? And what is it cause no one can find anything about one in that line. I have a brand new pcv valve and the old one tested fine but I got a new one anyway. Then my next problem is that I can't find a filler cap that will stay put for the front 1 1/4 hole. The push in types just pop out as soon as my oil pressure builds and I get going down the road. I've been to Napa, Auto Zone, and Advance and they keep giving me a push in cap which does not stay put. The front hole has no slots or threads - it's just round and smooth. Any thoughts will be appreciated - thanks. DH

Sounds like you have way to much blow by past your piston rings for
the PVC system to handle :( . It sounds like it's time for a rebuild.
