What do you make of that. I think it's pretty cool that they still remember they made FSJ's

jeep says they made a j30!!

No the "internet" says they made one.(check the source...Chryco). Heck Chryco dealers still belive the 360 is their motor. :(
They also mention a J-10 Gladiator but the J-10/J-20 models weren't around till 4 years after the Gladiator badge was dropped...no such thing as a J-10 Gladiator.

Funny they(J-30's) aren't mentioned in ANY US dealer sales brochure. Nor in ANY factory shop manual(AMC or DC) nor in ANY factory parts manuals(AMC or DC)...

It's usually standard proceedure when a car company tries to sell a vehicle they spent millions on developing and building they sorta put it or at least mention it in the dealer sales brochure and then sorta mention it in the TSM's and PM's huh? Hard to sell rigs and replacement parts if no one knows about them eh?

I'll believe a J-30 existed when I see it "in writing in an AMC factory publication" and not from an internet site especially DC's. The internet has more wrong/biased info than the New York Times. :(

the easiest way would be to confirm or deny with the Dana Spicer Corporation that they sold AMC/Jeep, Dana 60 front axles... if Jeep indeed did make a j30 then most likley they would have used the Dana 60 front axle... Dana would know if they were selling limited quantities to Jeep in the '70's

there was a "J30 dually" for sale in the tradin' times here for about a year.i figured the guy was confused,as i'm un-aware of the existence of a J30 too.

I do like the fact that Jeep goes along with my belief that J20's could be had in HD 1/2 ton - 1 ton models, but yeah, no such thing as a J30.

I also like the way they say that the Gladiator name was dropped in 1970 in one spot, then in 1971 in another.

And they say that the "vent" plates for rhino grilles are interior air intakes.

I wrote a better history of early FSJ's in 5th grade.

I see a lot of mis-information on that site. It says that the Laredo pakage replaced the Honcho pakage in 1983. I suppose the '80 J10 Laredo I had (my 1st FSJ) along with all of the other '80 Laredo trucks and Cherokees I've seen were just my imagination!

Maybe they forgot to add a zero or 2 after J-30, or it was an export version I never heard of.

Wasn't there a J30 in an old old Jeep publication for foreign sales. I believe it was just a concept back then even. Seems it was a Semi type rig not a pick up at all.
Whatever my cooked mind is dredging up here was posted on here many moons ago.

Just kidding...

Would've been cool if they had made a factory Jeep truck like the K30. Of course all any of us have to do to make any Jeep truck a J30 is bolt up a Dana 60 or 70 up front. Every thing else is up to par!! http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd218/COLOJEEPGUY2K/Emotions/0015.gif

Yes, I'm sure that Chryco has a large department with seasoned employees that do nothing but fact-check their sales literature ... not! :drivin:

It's an understandable mistake ... there were dual-wheel Gladiator trucks that would have been J30s if Jeep used that nomenclature in their era. J4000? J4600? J4800? J what? That's too confusing.

The first gladiators with rear dual wheels were the J230 and J330, no ?

So let's call them J30  ;)

In the short time I worked at Chrysler (95-96), I was amazed at how many AMC folks had infiltrated the Chrysler ranks.

My boss while I worked there was from AMC, and he always pointed out the other AMC folks that worked there.

Having said that, I would imagine most of the AMC folks are hitting retirement age and the numbers are quickly dwindling. That and I'm sure marketing won't let something like facts get in the way of a good story.
