This summer, I will be replacing my engine with a long block from Automotive Remanufacturing, Inc.(RECON). I was quoted $ 1,359.99 + $ 250.00 core charge delivered to the local store. The RECON Plant is in Philadelphia, PA. I checked the factory out and was impressed.

The RECON web site can be found at:
http://www.reconengines.com/

Good Luck!

I just delivered my 360 to Herman Lewis (304-253-6493 in Bradley, WV over the weekend to have him rebuild it.

Who's Herman Lewis, you ask?

He holds 19 world drag racing records earned behind an AMC 401 in an AMX. And he lives only 80 miles from me!!!!!!! Yippee!!

He knows the ins and outs of the AMC V8's, including all kinds of head tricks that he's going to perform on my motor.

Best of all, he's only charging me about $1300 for the whole rebuild. I'm squishy on the price because I might opt for some higher cost items along the way, but that's the basic price he quoted.

By the way, I have no interest here-I ran across him in a Mopar magazine on the newstand & spent a very enlightening afternoon in his shop last spring. I'm sure his prices have a lot to do with the fact that he lives in a very depressed area and his shop is out in a large garage behind his house. If I needed another rebuild, I'd seriously look into eating the shipping and getting him to do it for me, as opposed to buying an off-the-shelf rebuild. Those are a bit hit-and-miss, and even though you do get a warranty, try cashing in on it 4 years or 60,000 miles after you install it!

Okay, Okay.. You have me interested...

Anybody know what it would cost to ship an engine from Charlotte, NC to this guy and back? How much does a complete 360 weigh in at?

Just very curious... I would love to find a core to ship to someone like this and have it rebuilt...

I had a core shipped from Nebraska to Austin, Tx and it cost somewhere between 50 and 75 dollars.

This sounds like a good deal on the rebuild. I had my 360 rebuilt a year ago with linebore, balance and decked for about $1300 in a local machine shop with a reputation for high quality work. I think I got a year or 12,000 mi. warranty.

Oh! By the way. There is an article somewhere in one of these groups about a slight modification to enhance the oiling capabilities to the rear of these 360 engines. Wish I had known when I had my rebuild done. Any competent machine shop will be able to follow the directions.

Good luck with your project

Finish Line moters in White City Oregon is a good source for quaity parts, a 360 kit is a little over 600, the owner is a former AMX racer and builds a lot of dragster moters. I am curently working on a 300+ HP moter using pump gas for my J10 with his help.
