Does anyone know if I can do anything about my instrument panel? The guages for the 89 grand are square and really ugly. Is it a big deal to convert to an older style with round individual gauges? I have even been eyeballing XJ setups on ebay and wondering if they would fit. Any ideas?

Take a plate of metal, aluminum dimond plate, plain, whatever's, and cut it to fit the front of your guage cluster...now figure where you want your aftermarket round guages to go..cut the holes..clear out your quage cluster, install guages to your plate, screw the plate to the front of your guage cluster........actually it's more complicated...but doable I think? Anybody else?

That's kinda what I was thinking of doing. Just get a piece of thin sheet and cut it to fit the shape of your cluster, then just decide where you want your new gauges and make em fit! This way you can also put whatever gauges you feel you need, I'll probably go with temp/oil press./amp or volt/tach/ and speedo.

Advice: DON'T go to "old style round", they're just cheap plastic that weren't glued in good from the factory and you won't get 'em glued in now.
My dream: aftermarket speedo/ammeter/vacuuum/oil/fuel/tach-rpm gages behind a shiny diamond get-up like Chief Widetrack cooked up. Or some variation of that.
Besides, I don't think the 70's "old style round" would be compatible to the 80's for a lot of reasons. Anyways, Brent
