i asked the tranny guy if it mattered if we used dex/merc 3 or atf3. he said that they were pretty much the same and that they were going to use mex/merc in changing my fluid. the later chrycos needed a different fluid.

my tranny is going to need some work. there was quite a bit of small shavings in the pan. the tranny runs fine but it has 175000 in the clock. i also have a front seal leak.

i read an article in a trade magazine in their lobby. it was about cooling problems, and had a section about electrolysis in the rad. it talked about not having a good ground and the can cause electrolysis in the radiator. use should not use the rad or its supports as grounds. it can cause the metal to react and have pinholes and have build up in the rad. just one more reason to have good grounds. the current looks for any path of least resistance

type F fluid is a better fluid it does not break down as fast as dex/dex2 the atf-3 mopar 7176 is for the late overdrives if you put non atf-3 in a late 604 aw/od the trans will not shift many trannies have been sold because of the fluid mix up even the dip sticks on many late o/d trannies have dextron on the stamped into the dip sticks a lot of the lube places did not buy atf-3 because of cost and lack of availabilty as for the shavings in the pan on your automatic that is normal what you dont want to see is thick pasty mud (clutch disc) that means that lip seals are getting weak and a rerbuild is around the corner

note on the electrolysis - not using distilled water is a major factor in this
