i dont have the stock springs for my j20 and i want to know where i can buy THE BEST offroad articulation leafsprings for my 79 j20 for when i do the SAO, i dont really want to buy some old beat-up stock springs so they dont sag but i dont want some springs that are way too stiff and take a long time to break in, personal experience opinoins would be awesome, thanks!!!

you could always get a set of good used leaf springs. tha way they are already broken in and will flex more. you could have a local spring shop make up a set for you too.

You wouln't want the stock J-20 springs anyway, way too stiff and no flex.
I would find a nice worn out set of wag springs. They will bolt in and flex like hell.

Custom Alcans if I were you. They design them based on the weight of your vehicle.

These are the most common....Alcan in CO they have the Orbit-Eye bushings(exclusive)option which allow the spring pack to rotate and not have to twist as much but are not cheap(probably give you the best articulation)....National Spring down in or near San Diego CA make great flexible springs with lots of leafs....and Deaver in Santa Ana CA is another well known spring maker that used to make horse & buggy springs back in the day with lots of experience.

i wouldn't pay that if it wasn't my money. i'd look elsewhere. if you're really considering that then I'd go with coils and fab my own links. you're looking at $1300 for a set of 4 unless i read that wrong.

nope nick, you read it right. a custom set of leafs run about 600 to 800 a pair.
like i said, they aint cheap, but they are the best. my buddy runs a set on the front of his blazer (he paid 1k for em, ) and they flex like a mo-fo.
they'll tune'em for your rig and they have a lifetime guarantee.
but im w/ nick, i would just link it for that much.

THE BEST would be nice but at those prices, like you said, i could do a 4 link setup with coils instead of leafs for that much!!!

I like my Hell Creek Springs so far Havent wheeled yet but from what i know and what I can tell they are not to bad for a mass produced spring.

I am by no means an expert but here goes:
I have built a few 'junkyard' leaf packs and they worked very well.
What I am planning to do with Timex (which will be SOA front shackle flip rear) is exactly what I have done on 2 other rigs.
I have 2 sets of leaves. My stock set in Timex and a set from a used waggy.
I will remove all the leaves from Timex except for the mains. Then I will pull apart the extra set.
From here I am going to cut the eyes off the extra mains and put those leaves right under the main leaves still in the jeep. Then put in the 2nd leaves from each pack. So far I would have 2 mains then 2 2nds in each pack. Then do the same with the 3rd leaves.
By now I have 6 longer leaves in each pack. Longer leaves carry more weight so sagging should not be an issue. Using the double main leaf will help prevent axle wrap quite a bit. AND in spite of carrying more weight we all know longer leaves flex better than shorter leaves.
Again I am no expert BUT have done this on 2 different rigs with success.
Here are some pics of the MJ I had a few years ago. Had to seel due to divorce. This was a front leaf conversion with waggy front leaves and stock MJ rear leaves BUT built as I described above. This rig only weighed about 2800 lbs as we stripped everything we could and it was only a 4 bngr. You can see how well it flexed with these springs. Those are 35 X15 TSLs

You could just buy a new set of stock springs:

These are based on the Waggy springs (not your J20) so they will ride nice and they are strong, new and don't sag...
Thanks!

I would go with some Rancho's. Lots of people here runt hem. Priced well, and flex nicely (plus about 2" of lift).
When I do my J10 eventually I think I am just gona go with new stock springs.

how thick is the leaf pack on those 44044's? and how many leafs?
you guys get any axle wrap w/ them?

what about those chev 63's? ride quality/flex/leaves? or the 54in leaves off a chevy with the compression shackle like on diy4x? my buddies chevy flexes like mad. He's trying to talk to me into that on my j-10 same style of shackle.

wow, i'm truly amazed at how much a custom set of springs cost. every where else except here. and i thought i was paying a lot. i am going to have a custom set of soft rear springs with about three inches of lift made for the rear of waggy.
A1 spring in bakersfield california will do a custom set of springs for around 250 bucks give or take a little depeding on how much lift. these are new and made to order.
