I got my new (to me) heater box in from CrazyJeepMan, got to put my brand new heaeter core in the box before i install the box. My heater core does not fit. :banghead::banghead: I double check, it fits the stock box just fine. The was a heater core in the one from CJM, its bigger than my new core. Is there different heater core for different years??? All the ones I can find say the fit 63-91.
The box I got from CJM is the metal box, so it came out of a jeep older than 82 right? Do I need to be looking for one type of heater core inparticular?

That's odd...I've had a core from a metal box next to one from a plastic box...and it's similar...
The metal box is off my 77 J10...by the way, I have a spare metal box with a core in it, that came off that 77 Cab I picked up from you...I can send you that core if you want it? (Or pressure test the one you got with the metal box from CJM, if it leaks air underwater....take it to a radiator repair place...get it fixed and reuse it)...

I always thought the cores were the same. I believe that Heater box is out of my Old 70 Wag. At anyrate that core worked fine in the 70 as well as in my J10.......................Just leave it in there??????????

CJM- We preasure tested the core that was in the box that you sent, but it leaked around the top.
I can probly just notch the box to make the new core fit in it. The inlet and outlet on my new heater core are about 1/2 inch closer together than the one that was in the metal box.
Like i said, Im just confused because everywhere I look says the cores are the same from 63-91. Who knows.

I don't know if it is the cores or the boxes but they do not all mix and match. On my first 79 Cherokee the core started leaking, I thought what the heck I will just replace it. WRONG, I went to the dealer and then every parts place in town and tried about 10 different cores. None of them fit in the box. I went to NAPA (this was when they still had paper catalogs with all of the dimensions for each core they offered) and went through their entire catalog and still could not find anything that fit. I finally went and got the old one repaired. It it had ever started leaking I was just going to get what ever core was listed and modify the box to fit.

Hmmmmm. The heat core that went out in my Wag, looks like the one on the right. The new one I picked up from Auto Zone looks the same, except it has the metal plates at the top and bottom like the one on the left. The one that came in the box that CJM sent me looks like my old heater core, just a little bigger.
I think im just gonna inlarge the holes on my box so my new core will fit in there. Hopefully I wont screw it up in the process.
