I have an 86 gw that I installed a new shortblock, summit cam edelbrockintake,1406 carb and headers. It runs good, but if you really hit the go pedal quick, it doesn't want to stay idling. Is this just a carb adjustment problem? Also I noticed when i did the tfi that i don't see and mechanical advance inside the dizzy? am i missing something here?

Could be one of 3 things....
Vac line to vacuum advance not hooked up (if the TFI still has this, I don't know anything about the TFI's)
Accelerator pump needs adjusting (very likely)
Bowl level too low (quite possible but less likely than the accelerator pump ajustment)
Good Luck.

You do have a mechanical advance, but it is underneath the plate that mounts the magnetic pickup.
I had a similar problem when I replaced my distributor, and discovered it had the wrong advance springs. When I put in the proper springs, I took out too much slack in the heavy spring, so it reduced the initial mechanical advance too much. I loosened it up some, but I think I need to give it more slack so it lets another 4º or so some in before it slows down the advanc curve.
A sticky accelerator-pump arm can also cause this kind of stumbling/stalling. Make sure the linkage is hooked to the middle hole; that's the factory setting, and that has the longest stroke of any of the settings.
