I am going to put a 4" lift on my 88 wag. Is there anyone that makes trackbar lowering brackets to get them back in line, or will I have to make them? I would like to keep the thing as stable as possible, so I don't want to take them off.

A buddy of mine had his Skyjacker 4" lift installed at Southwest 4x4 in Harrisburg, OH, by the owner who's been working on Jeeps for 30 years. His solution was to drill longer slots in the mounts, so as to allow further adjustment of the track bars. The result is a really nice riding Jeep.

Do you drill out both mounting points, and how much? I've never messed with these things before.

There are track bars on FSJ's. Don't know when they started, but both of mine have them.

i believe they started in 84 with the GW. mine had them front and rear,in addition to the sway bar,and one of the first "mods" i made was to unbolt them and toss em in the trash.

articulation is much better,now. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif

Scot,
For what it's worth, when I lifted my '86 GW 4" I took the track bar off, cut it in half with my trusty sawzall, threaded each cut half about an inch with a pipe die, and joined them back together with a black pipe coupling. This gave me the little extra length I was looking for, as well as being able to twist it to get it to line up with the brackets since the angles were different with the axle lowered. I kept the track bar because I carry canoes on top, which raises the center of gravity, and I didn't want to worry about those on and off ramps. Just another way to skin the cat.

I tried to take a couple of pictures with this cruddy "CoolCam," but couldn't get a good enough photo to show you.

Basically, however, where the track bar mounts to the axle tube (on the passenger side), the mounting slot has been drilled longer so that the track bar can mount an inch or so more inboard than previously. This makes up for the change in geometry caused by the higher-arched springs. Similary, the sway bar end links are longer than stock (they came with the Skyjacker kit).

I put on the SkyJacker 4" lift a few months ago and it did not include longer swaybar endlinks. You may need to order those separate. I understand that they have the same ends as those for a CJ but, I'm not positive. These ideas sound good for the track bar. I didn't make any modifications and it definitely pulls the leafs over a little. I'll have to revisit this.

So what is better, cutting and extending the bar or lengthen the slot? If the slot is better, how much do you go over? I am hopefully puting on the lift this weekend. They don't have to be on then, but I would like them to be fixed soon after that.

I talked to the guys at Rusty's Off-Road and they said to just leave the bars off. So I am going to try it to see how it works. I know I know that is what you guys said, so we'll see what happens.
