I bought this truck and the previos owner doesnt know much about it. Here is a picture of the 69 j-3000 I have. I was wondering if someone could guess the lift amount. In the picture it has 36" super swamper TSJ tires. any help is great

That's about 10" on 37's (SOA and 3" BL) so I'm guessing 4" with some saggy front springs.

i'd say more like a 6" lift if those are 36s on it.

I don't think thats a 6" up front. Here is my J10 with 6" springs and 34's.

36's would fit fine, but would have more clearance than shown in the first post.

I'm not sure how the p/o did the lift. In the front there is a 2" block and in the rear the shackle was flipped. What amount of lift does the shackle lift net? I am looking for 6-8" of lift total to run the 36" tires i have.
thanks

I just installed 4" springs on the front my '67, had to flip the shackle and add 3" blocks in the back to level it out.
Here's a pic of the front with 33's, 35's or 36 will clear but rub under flex.

So are the front leaf springs on top of the axle or under it? The rear shackle flip will get around 5-8", depending on a lot of variables.

The leafs are on top of the axle. I thought that was how it was built from the factory. It does have 2" homemade lift block on the front.

You should really think about getting some new front springs (~4") to level it out...those blocks in the front are an accident waiting to happen

Nevermind, I'm retarded
Well that answers it then. You're SOA up front (factory had Spring Under Axle), with flat stock springs with a 2" block (lift blocks in the front = not cool). So you have about 7-9" up front...
Will, it's a '69, they came SOA and sat about what a stock later rig does. It's a front post mount deal, outside the frame instead of under like you are picturing. Mine's a former post mount rig, with newer hangers added like where yours are now.

i was under the impression that this year came stock with the front spring over?

Tadsal,
My truck still has the post mounts on the outside of the frame, the picture makes it look like its under the frame. I wish they were under the frame.

I think it has a 2 inch block and a sagged out AAL in the front and the shackle flip in the back and maybe a AAL or small block in the rear. The shackle flip would give you about 3 or so inches of lift.
Over all I think the the idea that the PO had was to try to get about 4-5 inches of lift but the truck has long sagged past that amount of lift.

I was thinking of getting some Scout II 4" leaf springs and cutting the eye's off the end and then add them to my main leaf and throw the blocks in the trash.. that should atleast level it out

Ignore what Slicke Willie had to say, he is speaking of 76+ rigs.
For yours, the front came from the factory in an SOA setup. The rear shackle flip on a post mount rig gives you about 3.5" of lift in most cases. If you have a block back there also, then you can add that to it. For the front, you have GOT to get rid of those blocks. Front blocks can be very dangerous.
The scout springs should work out for you.
Sorry,
I was not real clear on that, when I said...

...I meant Will and his rig.
Here's what I did to mine (which was like yours).

I don't advocate folks do this on a regular basis as it is a heck of a lot of work, but it does solve some issues and gains the height I was looking for.

Does anyone know if they make 6" Scout II front leaf springs?

In addition to tads method of removing the posts, I'll add one more in case you don't have a blue tip wrench.
Grind the heads of the rivets off, cut the post flush with the bracket piece, then make 4 cuts 2 vertical-2 horizontal just outside the circle of the original post. Something like this#. A big hammer will knock the pieces off real easy now, then cut the post flush with the frame and grind smooth.
I use 2 grinders, 1 with a grinding disc, the other with a 1/16 cut-off wheel. Yes a torch would make easy work of it but I have what I have.
