Was there a tow package for cherokee's in '79? I seem to think mine has a tow package on it. Dealer addition? It has a factory class 3 on it. Also the spring sag is very minimal. Anyway just wondering.

All I know for a class 3 package is the lighting. There was a relay box that spliced into the rear lighting harness and used the tailgate power supply as the new heavy duty feed for the trailer lights.

Mid 80's up tow package was hitch, electrical box, tranny cooler, and 3.31 gears. Not sure what was avaliable in 79.

Hmmm I dont have the gear. How many leafs do you all have in your rear?

IIRC my '79 W/T has 6 leaves, I think the closest thing to the tow package ours could have been had with would be a hitch, trans cooler(maybe, but not sure), and the wiring as mentioned above. The trailer wiring should be a 6 pin round connector.

Yeah mine has 6 leaves, the wire setup, drive shaft rotation monitor, hitch and trans cooler. It had the round 6 pin but it got ripped off wheelin. :D

Is that little purple box under the dash part of the tow wiring?

My 79 brochure says it has 5 leaf front and rear.
Yes there was a trailer package offered.

There is a magnetic pick up next to the rear drive shaft with a piece of metal welded to the shaft. I really dont know what it is used for though in the system. LOL

Actually I have 6 in front and 5 in rear. lol I think they just installed whatever was lying around at the factor. :D

Maybe the previous owner put in some heavy duty rear springs. I have 0 sag in the rear (actually the rear is higher than the front). That is actually why I am asking. Who knows. i am just gonna be happy i have no sag who cares why. :D

have 6 front 7 rear, right now, lord only knows why.

the new (to me) lift springs that came off a 83 WT are 5 and 5, how much lift? don't know, wheels/tires were not on the thing when I got them and they aren't going on til after the invasion.
