What is a good replacement for the ducting that runs from the air cleaner to the intact area in the front? I can't seem to find any, don't want to try OEM and I would assume that most of those at the wrecking yards are in shreds too. Mine is long gone, and I had some real trouble with vapor lock at very high temps, so I think the new ducting should help bring down temp at the carb.

In my experience, vapor lock occurs prior to the carb. Check your fuel line from the pump to the carb. Make sure it is stood off of the engine, intake and exhaust manifolds in some fashion.

Try clothes dryer duct. Hold it on with racin' tape. (Red Green would be proud http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/tongue.gif )

All the responses I've heard are correct. If you've got vapor lock, it's more likely related to the fuel line being in very close proximity to a source of heat. I've not heard of an engine shutting down from heated air coming through the air cleaner (although there's always a first time).

I bought OEM ducting from my local Jeep dealer, paid WAY too much for it, and promptly broke the crappy plastic clamps when trying to lock it down to the air cleaner snorkel and the fresh air flange on the core support.

I salvaged it, but would recommend using dryer ducting and wire ties or something similar. In fact, it may be better to use dryer ducting because some of it is foil faced and could reflect some heat away from the ducting, keeping the fresh air as cool as possible...

Dryer ducting! Good idea. FYI it comes in 2 types, white plastic & corrugated (flexible) metal. Any ideas which is better?

I would think that a flame paint job would be easier to apply to the white duct. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/tongue.gif

Seriously, Highlander has a good point on the reflective quality of the foil unit.

Important Safety Tip:
Remember to mount the duct high enough to prevent water ingestion if you plan on any watersports with your FSJ.

Hey guys, thanks for all the tips! I thought of the dryer ducting, but want to keep my beast as original looking as possible, both outside, inside and under the hood. I'll check the fuel routing. Dan - I'll try Pep boys for the ducting!
