Does anybody know how to test the dual CTO (the one on the rear passenger side of the intake)? It has 5 ports on it. When should I bet getting vaccuum at the ports (what engine temp, rpm, etc)? Any help is appreciated.

These things are a real pain. You actually have three of them. There desgined to feed vacuum at different temps. one for EGR one for Emmissions and the other for distributer. You need a factory service manual to trouble shoot them, and a vacuum gauge.

Hi, here is a link that I really like, it seems to explain the CTO's well, including the 5 port. The 5 port controls the EGR, purge and air injection as I recall. It is connected to 2 types of vacuum, which really threw me!

I think this guy was/is here, TPI Guy??

Luck!!

btw, Bob Barry who is a GURU here has a post on cost effective replacements for all the CTO's.

If the plastic part of the CTO turns in the base then it should be replaced. That are not too $$. I got mine at Autozone for about $22. Thanks again to Bob and his CTO list.

Anybody wanna copy the section on how to test it out of a manual? I'm a broke college student with no money to buy a factory manual.

Jallen, go to the link above and click. When the page comes up, scroll down to the heading EGR and start reading or print it. It explains the workings. IN the article, it goes over how to test as well. IT looks long and hard, but it is not. Luck!
