as a result of my most adventure some trip to Blue lake (see post (http://www.ifsja.org/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=000042) ) I now have replaced my stock Altenator with an internally regulated GM Altenator.
I lost a bunch of wires in the process, namely all the ones from the o.e. alt to the voltage regulator on the fender. The amp light was wired to the regulator.
The new Alt has a main discharge that I have hooked to the main starter terminal. It also hase a two wire pigtail, the big red wire I have hooked back to the main output terminal on the alt (as I was shown by the guy on the trail who put me onto this setup). The other small white wire off the pigtail has 13V when the engine is on, but the sample rig I saw it on had that wire blanked off.
All that to ask; HOW DO I MAKE THE ALT LIGHT WORK AGAIN?

Here ya go: http://www3.sympatico.ca/thartin/alt.htm

BTW, I'm not real sure, but I think putting the "big red wire" onto the main output terminal will "full-field" the alt., bypassing the regulator and giving you full voltage at all times. May want to re-think that one.

i have a 85 Gm 120a alt in me 66. the 2 thin wires are at the plug and the big red wire is at the back..the big red wire (10g or better) shood go to the junction block at the firewall just to the left and below, the wiper motor.

u can buy an after market plug for the 2 thin wires and usually one wire is red and one is white...the red one can be bolted to the big red one, at the back of the alt, or routed to the bat + terminal. the white one is connected to the wire that leads from ur idiot light... #2 #3 respectively, from the url slip gave ya.

if u want a look c...come to my folks place in concord and see the wag for ur self..u can view me SOA too...

Givin a couple variations in locations I think that's the config I got now. (electrically speakin' anyhow - got to know my wiring real well when I rewired the whole engine compartment.) I would like to check out your soa someday. SOA is my new goal as I'd really rather not cut the fenders but my tires were adjusting them for me out on the Blue lake. I e-mailed ya my #.
