I just put in a call to a friend of mine in Youngstown who owns a sheetmetal company. When he calls back I'm going to ask him the cost of making one or more gas tank skid plates out of stainless steel, as well as the other parts, straps, etc.
Anyone else interested?

Hey Ralph,
I am interested if the plate isn't outragiously expensive. Mine is corroded severely and is about to be destroyed so that I can finish a lift I am having done on my wagoneer. Let me know.

my $.02.....
it would be easier to make steel ones, stainless steel S**ks to work with! very heavy(and $$$$$)and incredibly destructive to drill bits and tooling!......mild steel and some rustoleum or undercoating would be a good balance....

this is getting freaky.today at work,Ed was showing me this aluminum chassis from an Oc-48 mux, nevermind. its dimensions were wrong, but the general shape was right. the voices in my head were screaming "skidplate" whatever you use Ralph, make it easier to sluice out than the original

Call AMC 4x4 Salvage in AZ 1-800-882-5337 I got a skidplate from them for $50.00 (yes $50.00) plus $30.00 shipping, it was just about perfect condition!! http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif I then modified it to drain properly by drilling 1/2" holes in all the areas that trap dirt and water, and cut it back from the frame some to let that area drain, and then my frame patch has a hole right in the area that rusted out so that area will drain. The steel I used to fix the frame came from the back frame rail of a FSJ, it works great!! it fits perfect and the frame looks original at a glance.

Just called, and they're out of them. FYI: J&W Jeeps will sell one for $130 plus shipping. It's just that I'm considering an improvement rather than a replacement, although I'll probably end up at J&W Jeeps anyway.
