Steering Wheel

How many of you have put an aftermarket steering wheel in your GW? I would like to see some pictures of how it looks before I put one in.

I personally like either one of these from Grant, but don't exactly know if it will look "right".

What you dont like the constant black rubber on your hands?

I think those may look funny. Well depending on the shape of the vehicle, but still might look too street rod carish for a FSJ.

It all depends how the steering wheel is in the one we are picking up this weekend, but I had a truck before that even after cleaning the wheel it steel made your hands black.

I know what you are saying about too street roddy, I am hoping some other people have done an aftermarket wheel and it looks right and have some pictures.

Yeah, it's tough to find a good replacment wheel - but I quite like this one at Grants ...

they have them in different sizes, it's really similar to the stock Cherokee "S" style but with classy wood! I am going to put this on the dunebuggy and will think about it for the truck.

^^those look great. Thats the exact one I was planning on getting from Quadratec for mine. They even sell a horn button with a jeep emblem on it.

I considered aftermarket but keeping it stock just seemed like the right thing to do! The Grant Wheels do look pretty sharp. To each his own.:)

The only thing I don't like about some of the wood-rimmed aftermarket wheels in a Grand Wagoneer is that all of the wood trim in a GW is lighter, honey colored and the wheels are almost always darker, redder colored and to me they look out of place.

Hi,

the original 1960ies one looks really very sharp, especially with the old instrument panel. And stickshift, cool rig !

I hava a moto lita Mk 3 in my wag. I find the color match is ok since it is thin, it is a bit more red than the wood of the interior (and a bit more red than I expected). You can mount anything if you find a GM boss for it.

I had one of these before. The grime and sweat from your hands builds up on the walnut wood and gets funky in high humidity. Something to consider if this is a work type vehicle. I have one of the other Grant GT wheels on my Waggie. I will try to get a pic when I get home.

I was ready to replace the steering wheel on my 88 wagoneer because of the decaying leather. I decided to see what was underneath and removed the leather and found a brand new burgandy plastic steering wheel underneath. It's just like having a new wheel.

I have a black leather Grant steering wheel in my Cherk and LOVE it.

I would guess with the wooden ones you'd want to actually clean it weekly.

I used a Grant GT wheel on mine for quite a few years. The only complaint (other than the horn button not staying on) was that it was a 13" wheel. This is smaller than the stock wheels and blocked some of the insturment panel.

Hehe, yeah got almost 1000 miles on her when I did that, got on the throttle too much and lost it sideways into a tele pole. Not fun. 6 months of work gone in 3 seconds. The motor/tranny lived on into another wag and now resides in another members wag.
