anyone have a source for Michelin XL tires? Yes, the kind sold as military takeoffs. I know I should look on the 715 board, but I cant always get it to load here at work.
I need the ones that are 35" equivalent and fit a 16" rim. Not sure what this is in the military designations.
need at least 4 with as much tread as I can get. These are going on my DD/tow rig dodge since they wear like Iron and have a massive load rating.
now for the cool news. pending the final measurements that will be sent to me today, i'm going to be getting a set of AAM takeout axles from a 2004 dodge 3/4ton. These are going in my 2001 to replace my front 60 with the stupid vacuum collar and the bad unit beraings. The AAM axles still have unit bearings, but at 23k miles, these are still in newish condition. with 3.73 gears, these should help compensate for my tire size a little without killing my mileage (have 3.54 now), and last but not least... 4 wheel DISC brakes!!
the coolest thing is... the AAM axles do not have the vacuum disconnect! They are a true solid axle, which just tickles me pink. The 2007 Ram I measured at the local dealer last night (after closing so they would leave me alone) indicated that the suspension and steering have not changed and this swap will be 99% bolt in. All I need to do is get the driveshaft flange for the front axle and put it on my shaft.
this is going to be sweet. and doing this swap is actually going to save me money over rebuilding what i've got, and i'll have much better running gear. I'm stoked!
