Hey All, I just got a vacuum gauge from Sears (looks cheap).
1. where do I hook the gauge up to tiune the carb? Is it on the intake or on the carb itself?
2. so it should go carb ajust, timing, then idle.
thanks for all the help.
Get the idle speed in spec then plug the vac line to the dizzy and time the eng first(warm motor). Then re-hook everything and plug the gauge into a manifold vac source. Bottom of the carb will work. Then set the idle speed again and adj one mix screw, reset idle, adjust the other mix screw, lather, rinse, repeat till you can't get a higher vac reading. The carb tuning is the "last" thing you do in a tuneup once you know your plugs, wires, cap, rotor, timing etc are all in spec.

Oh on my timing, the timing tag is marked TDC then the marks are for After TDC. The book say's 8(deg) BTDC so do I just take a quess at it? Thanks

Are you sure the tag is not marked BTDC? Anyway, these rigs are sensitive to timing, in my experience. I would set it with a good "dial back" timeing light.
Paul,
Before the TDC mark there should be something like "5" then A10". The "A" stands for Adavanced not After. So if the specs call for 8* BTDC then set it between the "5" and the "A10".
