Started on the skackle flip for the 14 bolt. I thought about putting an upper brace on it but I think she should be fine like this.

How much lift will this give you?

Yeah, how much lift will this give you? Did you replace the bushings while you had it apart? How did that affect your pinion angle? (Probably helped huh?) When you do this do you have to do anything with the front shackle?

Good googily, slow down! You're going to blow a head gasket

They say about 6" of lift.

I have not replaced the bushings yet. I am going to wait and see fi it is level with the front. If not I will put extended chevy shackles on it that come with new ones.

I will set the pinion angle when I weld on the new perches as the stock 14 bolt ones are to narrow.

Do you mean the front mount on the rear spring? If so then no I have not.

depends on how hard you are on your truck. i bent mine like that. i had extra bracing on the bottom but not the top.

mine held for years while wheeling, but w/ rockwells and a bigblock, i tend to get stupid sometimes.

Well the way I welded the peices on and the little I know about physics (which isnt much) Any force pushing up on that peice will be transfered to the side plates and onto the angle where they are welded. I used steel just thicker the what they used stock. If anything I would expect it to rip off the frame at the stock points it attaches before those brackets bend or break.

But what do I know.

i hear ya, and your setup is definitely stronger than stock. and again it depends how hard you wheel.

i think i bent mine on a waterfall @ the hammers. i was full throttle hopping about 5' in the air landing on my rear hangar. probably wont happen again, but you never know.

Slick Willie,

Blow a head gasket that's funny! :D I am just so excited about FSJs I couldn't contain myself! lol!

Shew, we need more of that enthusiasm around here. All these old geezers don't get excited very often. :D

So it sounds like if you're not bouncing 5' in the air, you should be fine! The vertical supports will help the most. They act like gussets on an elbow. You'll be fine, IMO.

is it just me or is your shackle angle really bad?

how did you cut out the bottom out and keep such clean edges?

My guess is that the rear of the vehicle is unweighted...no axle attached. ;)

Yep stands on the frame.

I used a grinder and an air saw to cut it out depending on the part. The airsaw gives a flat clean cut. but it takes much longer and eats blades. Would have been alittle overkill for a plasma. Plus this way kept the heat down in the metal untill I welded it. For some reason the welds look alot better in person. But I was not going for a beauty show. Those suckers are not going anywhere.

Today I took off one of the stock 14 bolt purches. Those suckers are a *****. Cut out the other side to start on the flip. Once I get the other side done I will bolt the 14 up to it with the new purches and set the pinion angle and fire her up. Then I just have drive shafts, full hydro steering, the rims and tires, and install the rear disks. Then the suspension parts will be done. Then yank the heads put on the new gaskets and tear her up. I was wanting to have it done before Ouray to take it. But I am not sure at this point.
