if I can get my J10 running and money for gas saved up I'll be there, I'd love to break in my new ride on some of the sissy trails, but considering its all stock I'm not sure what I can do with it.
however, If I can convince hem to go, four of my friends may be able to make it with their trucks, leading of the list is a '79 or '78 cj, a '93 cherokee, a 84 chevy, and a '72 bronco. now granted most of these are their daily drivers so they probably wouldent try anything too risky, but I just didnt know if they would be able to come along or what the rules and regs were on that sort of thing,
cant wait to get my beast on the road, god I hope it makes it....
<edit> You may want to call KOA and get you a spot or 2 reserved. You can always cancel(check their policy) before the date if need be.
Other brands are welcome as far as I'm concerned. There was a Yukon, Exploder,Blazer and a Scout that I remember from last year.
A stock J10 will be fine on alot of trails if not most of them. Those that know will keep you off the too hard stuff. Low range is a must. What year J10 you have and what set up? GO THROUGH YOUR BRAKES !!
I myself am bringing a street truck,1981, J20. I can't tear this thing up so it won't be hanging on no cliffs. Besides it flexes like a brick, no lift and 33" tires, no locker. I'll be on mainly bunny trails myself this year. I am leaving the old sheet metal on it, so I won't mind the dents if they happen. New front clip can wait till the fall.

just don't park in the middle of the group when we're taking pics, offbrands LOVE to do that :P
welcome to the group!
edit: make sure everyone has some sort of low range and good brakes. We had an incident last year where a guy just showed up, refused our advice on low ranges, and flew off the trail and almost got himself and his family killed. We don't want that to happen again, so make sure they are versed in HIGH altitude driving and agree to at least listen to the new friends they'll be riding with :) Going UP mountains is EASY. Coming down them without smoking your brakes, no matter how good they are on the road, is a whole 'nother matter, and using Low Range is critical, because it gives your brakes a chance to stay somewhat cool, and the engine compression slows you down enabling that.

if all goes right a 1976 w/ amc 360 - everythings hindering on a mechanics inspection at 10:30 today. dunno what kind of TC is underneath it, i assume whatever came stock, and the only work that i know has been done to the drive train other than a new carb and starter is that he put on manual hubs.

Can't park on the end either  . But other than that I don't think anybody minds too much. We will be bringing an Exploder (or, if things don't start getting better real fast, maybe a Firebird). Hope you can make it! I would check on the KOA spots though. Also the low range advice is important.

usually no need to put on manual hubs, since you're likely running a quadratrack if you have an auto. Do some research here, you can fry your transfer case quickly with that setup if you have them engaged at the wrong times!!!!
just teasing about the offbrands in pix btw, its about people, not about rigs.

Yeah I know... but there were some unofficial 'official' pics that are different... just nevermind, we're all there to have a good time and I haven't met anyone I didn't like there :). And it is the FSJ INVASION :fsj: after all.

deal fel lthrough on the 76, too much work, too little time, too little money, moved on to a 79 cherokee that needs a th400 trans reseal - oddly enough though he said it had a crysler 360 - possible mistaken for a amc 360?
Very common mistake. Is the distributer up front of the engine? If so it's a AMC. Mopar 360 dist. is located in the rear of the engine, at least mine is.
Chero's are nice also. Has a built in sleeping area.
Does it have a lowrange on it? There will be a small lever on the floor right in front of drivers seat, on the sie of the hump. Those are a major plus factor for the mountains. If it doesn't have one then get one quick. I'm sure someone on here will sell you one if need be.
Change out all your fluids before you come, if it is a semi-neglected Jeep. It really never hurts to anyway. I change all fluids as well as other parts and visual inspection, on every used vehicle I buy. Cuts out alot of questions and surprises.
My MPFI just arrived and now I'm debating on whether I have time to install it before the trip:o. 10 more days of major overtime at work then it's on to serious wrenching on my J20.
Don't forget... If you are running a quadratrac transfer(this would of been standard equip on the chero with a th400) You need the special fluid for it. DO NOT put oil or tranny fluid in it!!! Bad things will happen.
If the chero has locking hubs installed then it most likely no longer needs the special sauce.

tlowery04 - I can appreciate your goals to have an FSJ for Ouray. All the ones you have listed recently in your search are very likely Quadratrac equipped. There is a chance they do not have low range. You NEED low range to run in the mountains with us. You also need good brakes. If you get one from the desert area (ie below 3000 feet), you will probably have to retune it to run good between 7500 and 13000 feet. Whatever you do, be sure and check out the mechanicals on it before you come. Best of Luck to Ya!
Oh, if you have to come in the Pinto or something else, I am sure you can hitch a ride for the trail runs.

HAHA I wish, although I hear a bronco II would be a almost perfect swap.

 now that is funny right there Phil...
As long as it has decent brakes and low range, should be doable... :D
