I have an unknown block sitting in my garage and i know for a fact that it is a bbc chevy because of the lifter bores being offset and also that the word "HI Perf" is cast into the cam gear location of the block. I found these numbers on the back of the driver side head location but i could not find on the internet what the numbers mean. If anyone can tell me what these numbers mean it would be greatly appriciated.
Casting Number as Follows: TI 217CTW and beside that was 10 15331
I am completely positive that those are the correct numbers.

to be sure, you need to find the block casting #'s, as heads can be changed, then go to one of these sites to find the motor/yr vehicle it may have come from.
also be aware that id #'s repeat after a period of time
Chevy also used and 'I' for a 1 in their numbering
yours being TI217CTW 1015331
T=engine plant Tonanda, NY
I2(12)=month Dec
17=day 17
C=vehicle type code C=car (not truck)
TW=engine id (haven't found the motor designation yet)
1015331 should be part of the VIN of car

with that in mind I first found that it may be a '75 sbc 400 which would have been in several Buick, Chev, Olds or Pontiacs.
Since you are sure its a bbc, I found that it could be a '70 bbc 396
without further info on the block it is tuf to say

According to this website, it's a 1970 350 horse 396 out of a Chevy II, Camaro, or Chevelle. There is the off chance that it is the 375 horse 396 from a Chevy II. http://www.teufert.net/bbchevy/bbcodes.htm
