I pulled my motor about 2 wks ago and have had it up for sale. We haven't had any weather yet but it may rain tonight. The engine is outside on my trailer tarped and strapped with a hoisting plate over the carb. Is this bad ??? I've got a buyer that will be picking it up next weekend...Is there anything else I should or could do that I'm not aware of ??? Thanx jim

If you feel confident it will stay dry, it will be fine. If not, a second tarp may be in order.

What I try to do is pull the plugs and spray WD 40 in the cyclinders, and down the intake.

I second that and add put a bucket upside down over the top of the carb/intake (under the tarp) to provide a fast means for any water to travel if it does rain.

Wrapping up an engine with a tarp is partially bad...the moisture that gets through can't get out because tarps don't "breathe". By putting a bucket or something on top, it will give it some air space to let any moisture escape before it has time to soak through the tarp.

Oil in the cylinders, work the engine over by hand a few revolutions and reinsert spark plugs.

Bucket over manifold to peak the tarp as suggested is a good idea. Give the tarp a shot of "camp-dry" or other silicone-based water repellent and you should be OK. Untarp the engine after the storm.

Yeah seal the carb, exhaust ports etc...ya don't wanna run a mouse house/condo do ya?
Leave the tarp loose at the bottom so air circulates. A giant sealed plastic bag/tarp over the motor is just a condensation trap in humid areas and KY being one.

The buyer will be here on the 9th..... so I untarp it when I'm outside working on the rig.... I sprayed wd-40 in the exhaust manifold. It has a cover over carb. I will put some lite oil down spark plug holes and reinstall them. thanx for all the input. jim
