I lost a bidding war on ebay for two maroon rear arm rests. I think the final price was $87.00. Just for the fun of it, I called my local jeep dealer to see if they had a source for these parts. They checked the computer and found 5 dealers in the US that had one armrest each in the color I was looking for ($28.50). I received the first one today and it is smaller than the original. The color is correct and the mounting holes line up so it will work. My GW is an 87. Did this part change in later models? I'm wondering if the 2nd arm rest will be like the original leaving me with mismatched parts...oh well maybe the judges won't notice.
Thanks.

I don't know if it changed, but that's a pretty good score. Sometimes you never know what the dealer might still have laying around.

I have trouble with both my GW's with the rear arm rests. The nylon part that the screw goes into seems to break loose leaving the armrest teetering. Anyone have a solution other than leaving the armrests off?

Bigger screws, and if that doesn't work, leave the armrests off :D

I put big washers behind the plastic against the door panel. The inside of the washer's diameter just obiously should match the screw and the large width of it should give it plenty of support.

Umm, I got a question. Not to hi-jack the thread but when you have a lift how do the passengers for the back seat get in? It isn't an issue now but I know eventually someone will lean on or pull on the arm rest and I can see the plastic is going to break.

Get a couple "pull-your-butt" in grab handles. A buddy of mine had a couple heavy duty vinyl loop straps, like you see in some old cars or on the shuttle at the airport. Those worked great. I would hunt down those loop straps.

I tell them to get a running start. smile.gif Of course, I don't have that much lift.
