I have been thinking about converting the rear suspension on my 75 cherokee to coils for a while now. I decided I'm going to go through with this idea. But I can't start on it for a couple weeks because I don't have the time right now. I just want to get some ideas on what you think.

I have some old XJ coils laying around and was wondering if those would work? I want it to be a pretty soft ride and thought that these might do that. I was also thinking that with all the weight of the heavy jeep that they would be pretty close to bottoming out....? If so, thats fine. I'll just put squishy bump stops on it. I want it to have a lot of down travel.

Oh, and one more question, should I put the springs right under the frame or on the inside?

Thanks

Take a look at nicks '75 cherokee here:

I think he used front bronco springs.

I used 5 1/2" Wild Horse Bronco Springs. They're just right IMO. I think XJs might be a little soft but I haven't ran them so I don't know. I do know however that they will sag over time. By the time I gave up my XJ the front suspension was pretty poor.

I run front stock XJ coils on the rear of mine 150 PSI nitrogen charged shocks. Of course I also cut 32" off the back. I think they're perfect.

Thanks for the info. I also have old f150 coils laying around so I think I might try those instead.

What do you guys think about where to mount the springs? Like inside the frame, outside the frame, or right under it? My jeep is going to be primarily for trail use and will see the street only to get to close trails.

I mounted mine on the outside of the frame.

In regards to coils, anybody have an idea who's spring I should use with a 5.9 cummins swap? i would think dodge lift springs for 94-98 dies trucks would work, but do they flex well? i plan on doing a ford radius arm style setup.
