I need a new battery. I have a ramsey 9000 winch and I was wondering if this would be a good deal?

by the time you ship, you should just go down to advance auto and buy an Optima (they were on sale last time I was there) $99.99 and full warrenty and not a 2nd or a year old like the Ebay auction states. Check with JeepKahn he a manager at Advance Auto here in NC

They say they're 1 year old, I don't know if that's a good thing or not. It is however a lot cheaper than the Optima Yellow Top I bought recently for $150, but the Yellow Top is a great battery.

I would say no. The keyword is Exide. They make the cheapest batteries I've ever seen, weeping acid like a mother f'er. This one says it doesn't leak, but I find that hard to believe. They make all the chain-brand batteries like Napa, Carquest, etc. And what does this "seconds" mean? Save your money and get a real Optima, IMHO.

It's an orbital battery so the question of leaking acid is mute. They have acid in somekind of suspension and don't leak. I'd bet most batteries in stores can be about a year old. I'd say give it a try, EXCEPT for the shipping. When you figure that in $60 is just too much for a battery that is a second and no warranty. You can get a equal battery locally with a six year warranty or more for the same $$.

Ok, I just run whenever I hear the name Exide, no matter what the composition.

Exide batteries blow dog Exactly. Even if Yugo made a limo, it's still a Yugo. If it wears the Exide name, I'd never buy it.

The battery that you have an interest has a Reserve Capacity of 90 minutes, this means that when fully charged the battery (under ideal conditions) will supply 25 amps at 12Vdc for 90 minutes.

25 amps x 90 minutes = 2250 total amps available

Ramsey Winches draw 400 amps...

2250 divided by 400 amps = about 5 1/2 minutes at best, you will at that time have depleted the battery and you will no longer be able to start/run the vehicle.

Hope you have another fully charged battery on hand.

Do not expect the alternator to compensate for the battery, it only puts out about 100 amps max, and cannot possible keep up.

Just be aware, that with regards to Winches and batteries, the more Reserve Capacity the better.

Academy Sports have Marine Grade batteries, Type 27's for about $60 dollars that give 180 minutes of Reserve Capacity.

West Maring will have some as well, as will Wal-Mart.

Just to prove a point about batteries and their reserve. I had a NASCAR 850cca battery(which suck and are probably Exides)from Checker and if I played my stereo(one 200 watt and one 600 watt amp)with the engine off for about an hour or so the battery would be too drained to start. Now that I have the Optima yellow top I can play my stereo for hours, I had it on for about 3 1/2 hours Saturday night and the Grand started right up. I don't know how long I could play it before the Optima would die. I had a red top Optima in my other car with the same system that is now in the Grand and it would go along time too, I killed the red top once but that was after about 6 hours of playing the stereo.

Go to Wally-World, lay down a Grant, and have warranty for the next 3 years. Shipping alone for that battery would be almost that much.

hey I didnt say i was gonna get it I just wanted to know if it was good. So now I know exide sucks so I will save up for the optima. It will just take awhile.
