Well, one of the casualties in Moab last month was a pretzeled rear bumper on the J20. It is some aftermarket chrome blingy thing that was not up for the task anyways. :D

So, if you have a rear bumper solution that you like with for a Jtruck, please show it off here. Lookin for some ideers... Thanks!

Flint if you look at the front and rear bumpers on the chevy and the rear of the dodge of the thread Black Bart's Birthday bash. Those are all Black Bart specials!

Here is the stock bumper I'm fixing up. I've allready straightened it and patched the one small area or rust through.

if you want to tackle it, you can have the one off my 82 bed if it'll bolt up.

although I'd hold out for a BB special though.

I thought those looked like Black Bart solutions there Charlie!

I would like a step down to the top of the receiver hitch. It is welded in. Not crazy about that, but it is stout enough to take the weight of the truck hauling a few hundred lbs of tools and spare parts.

Thomas, that looks great!

Ryan, I wondered if that one was any good. We are indeed looking to Black Bart for the final solution though. :fsj:

Keep em coming, thanks!

We stood black Bart's old blazer on the front left corner of the bumper and the front left tire on a rock coming down one of the nastier trails you go up turn around and come back down. In trying to turn it we came to a halt in the above position which was quite fun as I hadn't put on my seat belt. After I pulled myself off Craig he was able to release the clutch and get the other tires on the ground back up and complete the turn. All it did to the end plate on the bumper was put a scratch in it!!

I still can't believe that isn't a factory bumper, you did an awesome job on it.

Heres my old hunk of junk. ;)

I'm a huge fan of the bumper that came on my 2k - no brand plate or anything, but it lets the tailgate swing all the way down...

This is the original factory option on a Thriftside.
http://www.fsjworld.com/gallery/hcallaway/91881.jpg
This was the dealer installed Thriftside Rear Bumper.
I think it cost about $30 at the parts counter and $7 to install from the dealer. I have some original dealer Bumper Literature around here.

Since taking that pic, I've made an endcap out of some scrap plywood, which actually came out pretty nice. No sharp edges allowed for state safety inspection. I need to clean up the rust and go over it with some of that chrome bumper paint. Eventually I would like to just replace it, maybe with a BJ's Dozer II.

What your looking at here is whats left of the bumper on my 85 j10, or rather whats left of the bumper brackets, lol. It was like that when I got it.

Heres a Flex-N-Gate rear bumper I got at the u-pull-it for $25. It looks okay in the pic, but its actually in pretty bad shape and is gonna take some work before it's ready to be mounted up.

We got quite a variety here!

Mike, I like that Dozer design. Just don't need the receiver that high. What kind of drop you use on that?

The Pig Smith gots a serious bumper starting just behind the cab! Thanks, keep em coming.

Excellent job Thomas!

Thanks. I tried to copy the factory design as much as possible. I'm happy with it, until I find a wrap around bumper anyway.

Flint,
I have never used the receiver for it's intended purpose. Well frankly speaking, it's too high.
If I need to tow anything, I'll use my DD with Cummins.
