As some of you know, I just picked up my J10 at the beginning of the month. I was looking into the Mile Marker part-time kit, and after looking in my glovebox, I noticed that I already have the sticker pasted in there behind the switch, and it has Mile Marker hubs. Besides opening the transfer case up, how can I find any more info on what is installed? The old owner is deceased and I bought it off of his son that doesn't know much about the vehicle.

The easy way is to lock the hubs, make sure the transfer case is in the "2WD" mode and the tranny in park, jack up one front tire and rotate it. If the front driveshaft is turning with very little resistance, then you have the 2wd conversion.
If you still had the QT full time, you shouldn't be able to rotate the tire by hand.
Start the engine and switch to 4wd. You shouldn' t be able to turn the tire at all.

Well, since that Jeep has been around about 30 years or so, it could have a part time kit or maybe not. The best way to tell is to open it up. You can tell if it has a kit by looking in the inspection cover, but that is just under the floorboard on the Wags and Cherokees and not easy to see in to with out a mirror. The Jtrucks have a little more room to reach up there. Looking at Sean's recent picture, the opening on the right is the one I am talking about. You can see the shift fork & collar down in there and be able to tell if it is really a part time or not. If it is, it would be real difficult to tell whether it is 16% overdrive or not.

Here is a sample of a stock differential and a part time replacement (OD type) on the bench. the stock has a single ring collar, the part time has a longer extension on one side that slides into the sprocket to lock in the 4wd.

Also lots of QT info in a link in my signature below...

Check that chain for stretch before you open it so you will know if you need to replace the chain while you are in there.
