FC's rock!

My druthers: 225 v6 out of cj/commmando & some waggy d44's, if you wanted to wheel it. Those early d44's aren't quite up to snuff, abuse wise, IMHO . And the d27 front axle is sort of a weak link for 'wheeling/abusing.

Nice find. I agree about the D27 being the weak link, you could always swap in a D44 from a FC170. Also, I wouldn't lift that thing very high, they are pretty top heavy.

Front glass is good, that's probably worth whatever you would pay for the truck as a whole!

What I would like to do, is find a modern CAB/Chassis that someone has rolled and use frame as a updated Forward Control project!
Put the FC cab on, say a 3500 Diesel Ram dually frame.
Let the rear half of the Cummins 6BT stick out, just like a cabover FreightLiner!
Ok, need to wake up and quit dreaming!

You will not however have room for a transmission, transfer case or rear drive shaft. Not to mention an adequate radiator.

While I am not opposed to "Jeep Hacking" in general, when it comes to some of the more rare early stuff, I tend to be a bit of a Resto-Grouch. Put it back together correctly with the original parts. Too many of these have already been butchered with v-8 conversions and such, so start with one of them if you want a v-8 in an early Jeep.

Excellent score!

I've had a couple FC-170 duallies in the past, but never got around to playing with them.
Wheeling one of those things could be a real treat, imagine being able to actually see the ground in front of you on a steep hill climb, and not the hood! Might scare the crap out of you on a steep down hill though...:D

If I were to modify/improve one for trail use, I would look into a ferd 289/302/5.0 type of and engine, American V8 iron, and narrow enough to probably fit between the inner fenders. With an auto tranny and what ever for a t-case. If you wanted a manual transmission you will have a tough time figuring out how to shift it. Basically an early ferd bronco could be a really good donor vehicle, find one with a 44 front.

Good luck.
