I just did and it came out really distorted. I'll try messing with it again later today.

Is it dithered? If so you may have to set up your scanner to address that...

Michael is correct. Usually setting the scan to no higher than 600 DPI will work best. Rule of thumb is to scan at 2X the final size that you want to print it at. See what options you have for scanning halftoned images. Scanning at too low a resolution and it will look like crap. Scan at too HIGH a resolution and you will SEE all the crap (dust, hair, etc) on the image.

what is the original image you are scanning from? most printed images are halftoned at 160-180 DPI. scanning toomuch above or below that will give you funky moire' patterns. some scanning programs have a "de-screen" option if yours does try it. Also when scanning screened photos normally you can only get reproduction of any quality at full size--or maybe 30% larger--if you are lucky.

I used to work in pictorial history book publishing and had to try to scan thousands of photos every year for reporduction, everything form glassplate negatives to tintypes to old newspapers and funky old high school annuals from waaaay back.

Dave, I also tried working with the image you posted but as usual, in order to reduce it to a size one can post on the site the size and resolution setting are too small to blow it back up. Can you tell me the original source for the image. If I can get at the original version I might be able to find a way to get you a decent copy. What year is it? might try googling it and see if any pictures or leads to factory colors pop up.
That black is really attractive but it has some other colors in it as well that I suspect might give it a deep dark "sweet cherry" look. I don't know if that was a jeep color or something the ad agency artists did to jazz it up might have been done with colored lights and filters

Dave, I've had no luck with getting this re-sized and not have it distorted. There are a ton of ad's here: www.jtrux.com (http://www.jtrux.com)

Thanks anyway y'all (yep southern)

I sent them an e-mail to see if they can provide a full-sized scan of that ad...

Thanks Janie,
