What would be the best way to hook up my stock 727 to a chevy 205? I know the doubler route with a dodge 203 would be a decent option...but what if I just want the 205 for now. Does AA or JB make an adpater shaft to convert a 727 output to one of the correct spline counts on the 205s?

Why not use a D@dge NP205?
Both Chebbie and D@dge 205's are pass side drops, and the D@dge should mount right up.

I didn't think the dodge 205 was 23 spline input? Maybe I'm wrong????
Everything think I read has a 27, 31 etc inputs on the 205...but no 23.

I'm not sure on the spline count either, and Dodge might not have used a NP205 with a round t-case bolt pattern now that I think about it. You might need to get the output shaft and tail housing adaptor to use the D@dge set-up, but it would still be a lot easier than getting the parts to go TF727/Chevy NP205.

Why not go with a Dana 300 if you have a 727?

A 300 won't hold up under a rig this heavy that will have tons of gearing and tarz. I believ JB conversions is making a female/male adapter sleev to go from 23 spline female to 32 spline male for chevy stuff.
I did find the 23 spline dodge 205...but it has the figure 8 pattern instead of the 6 bolt.

I may be easier to just do the doubler route after all.
I was looking at the 3:1 for the 205...but that would have to be a new case and everything...so I don;t see why they couldn;t do a 23 spline???

My local yard has a 727/205 out of an 88 dodge 1 ton. It should be easy to change the trans case. Not sure what he wants for it. (and I'll be in blacksburg va. next week.)

I'm thinking some of the late one ton 205's from behind the diesel were 29 spline... just a heads up, count 'em.

Yeah...I hav been going abck and forth over this one. I was planning a doubler (already have a 23 spline 203) but inorder to get the doubler...I'd have to get real lucky and find a 32 spline 205. Thats has proven to be tough...so I have a 27 spline (male) 205 that I can convert to a 32 spline female, but after machine the case, rebuildig and getting the correct input, shifters etc.. ...I'd be at the same price as a bolt in atlas.

So there in lies the trouble making up my mind.

I need to buy anything big for the honcho before I get hitched later this summer...(why I just bought 1 tons now) So the atlas is not a bad choice for 2k vs the douber (around 1.5k plus some machining)

I know the atlas would hold up fine, but the doubler would ne nice to have selectabilty with my Low range and wheel spin...

What to do..what to do...:D

dodge 205's behind gas engines are 23 spline, mid eighties up dodge 205's either bolted up to the round pattern or had a piece that adapted the figure eight to the round pattern.finding the dodge setup would be easiest

Just be patient, 32-spline input 205's are around. As soon as you go another route, one will show up:cool:

I know a guy here in TX that has a short 32spl input 205 that is completely rebuilt for $500.

www.offroaddesign.com (http://www.offroaddesign.com)

Offroad design sells new high quality 32-spline input conversion shafts for around $190. then all you have is the disassembly/assembly and about $40 in machine work(if you just want to run a straight 205 and disasseble/assemble the case yourself) Nowhere near $2k. More like$500-600.

Wether or not it'll work with a Chrysler adapter......not sure on that

yeah...the 1.5k to 2k was for a complete doubler set up.
Still on the fence, but I have a few weeks until I finish my axle rebuild and swap.....so maybe one will show up..or i'll get tired and just get an atlas or stak...we'll see:D
