Just wondering if anyone here has been/ is planning to go to the Rubicon this year. :fsj: I've never been, however since I own a Jeep & live in Nor-Cal, I figure I should go see it :)

I'm not sure how far I want to go; camping there sounds good, perhaps at one of the developed campgrounds, but I don't want to go if these places get "rowdy". I'm hoping it will be a nice, relaxed, fun, and safe experience ::thumbsup:

I'll be driving my DD '87 GW, of course, and at this point, I'm almost done with the mods I've planned for the year: the 2" lift, some aux. lighting, and some 31" BFG A/t's. It seems flexible enough, but I don't really want to go too far as I don't have any body protection yet. Let me tell you, my GW looks good right now! I just want to get some "rock sliders" built up before going nuts.

Here it is now:

And it should be slightly taller with the new meats as soon as I get them installed ;)

Thanks for any thoughts,
Clay

Your wag wont make it without somemajor body damage. That over hang out back seems to hit everything. I have considered taking my J10 on it, but even with a 6" and 34's I am afraid of smashing it up simply because its a whole lot bigger than a wrangler is.

IN the 6 times over the last 12 yrs iv complete the 'con' the worst damage occurs to the rockers. But that was with 3" of bod lift, SOA, 33s and twin detroits.

Anything less is just a waste of sheet metal.

My advice is go over it first as a passenger with a veteran wheeler who's done it before. You'll get a quick idea of your vehicle's limitations and the required equipment you need.

The trail and scenery are awesome, but due to it's publicity, it can be crowded in the peak summer months. It's a little too hectic for my taste personally.

Thanks everyone,
So my suspicions are confirmed; I'll try to work out a trip sometime later on with someone to see what it's like. In the next year or so I'm planning more lift & more trail safety stuff for my GW; but in the meantime I'll be hitting the Cow Mountain recreation area for sure (my co-workers sometimes go there) & see how the Jeep does :)

Thanks all,
Clay

I've done part of the Rubicon with my Waggy, which is set up similar to yours. Boy was that a rough ride. I ended up taking some other trails in the area instead which were still tough but doable in an unlocked SJ. That hitch reciever hit rock more than once.

I might go this summer with my 4WD club, but ride along with one of the guys and his tricked Rubicon Express-lifted Wrangler. The bottom of his Jeep is level with my hips, and I'm 5'10".

If anything, try taking 3 days starting on a sunday morn. That has worked best for me.
