The woodgrain panels and trim on my '91 wag are still in great shape and I want to keep them that way. What is the best way to preserve and keep them from deteriorating?

Before I came to Colorado and drove on nicely maintained roads in the fast lane on the east coast, I would spiff mine up with a liguid floor wax and applied w/4x6 sponge. The grit out here, especially winter time is harsh on the vinyl.

Flint, do you mean Mop-n-glo or the real stuff like the kind that has to be stripped off of the floor every so often? Any negatives like softening the vinyl?

Keep them out of the scortching Oklahoma summer sun.

i use a non-silicone based u.v. protectant on all trim surfaces & will do the same for the trim when its applied. (the siliconed based stuff like "amour-all" dries trim up) - the stuff i use keeps it moist & i also use it on the dash pad etc.

jpcoutts, you may also be inclined to apply a clear protectant adhesive sheet over each of the panels & then cut it to size with a thin blade along the inside edge of the molding?? - just an idea.

when i finally install my trim, i intend to use the oem vinyl but also apply a clear vinyl / plastic adhesive u.v. protectant film before adhering the molding last.

As a matter of fact, it was Mop-n-Glo. You don't want the kind you have to strip. I do believe it helped the vinyl and colors last longer.
