Not to put up a bunch of posts but I gotta alot of questions about my new toy. I will need a new windshield to get through inspection and wanted to know if they were all the same? Can a newer one go in my 72 or do I have to find one for the early year models?

The windshields on all Full Size Cherokees, J-trucks, and Wagoneers are the same.

im still not convinced about this anyone else care to help us out here thanks again
If you install a new windshield into your old original rubber, it will leak, whistle and make an annoying thump as is moves around in the gasket. Replace the rubber! Learned this first hand.
And yes, new aftermarket glass is thinner than the OEM stuff. It's also getting harder to find a glass shop that can do a decent job with a gasket-set windshield. Most vehicles made in the last 30 years have glue-set glass. Good luck.

I have a stock windshield and an aftermarket in the basement. The aftermarket is definitely thinner

Now days when you replace a windshield on newer trucks, there is usually an option for a heavy duty one. My windshield just cracked in my 2007 new style chevy and man is that a thin windshield. The rock chip that in one day turned into a huge s on my windshield was almost not visible to the eye. Now thats some cheap junk.
