Well this weekend I started going over stuff to fix on my 78 Cherokee that I just purchased. And noticed that the skid plate that covers my flywheel is MIA. Now I have talked to a few people about this finding and to my surprise they say thats fairly common. My concerns with leaving it uncovered are these. 1. Mud and gook and small rocks getting to places where there shouldnt be mud, gook, and small rocks. 2. Large rock slamming into my flywheel when I am out climbing on rocks. I guess what I am asking of my fellow FSJ'ers is what are ya'lls opinions? Thanks for any info...

You want one. Missing one is common because, even off road, due to it's position under the rig, none of the tires can really be put in a position to saturate that part of the undercarrage with dirt and rocks. But, as I'm sure you know, dirt, mud and small rocks find themselves in all kinds of places that they shouldn't be, like at windshield level when your cruising down the highway. Don't shell out a ton of cash for one, and don't give yourself an anurism looking for one, but when you see one, grab it and put it in.

I have saw lots of trucks without them and wonder was it left off by some PO or did fall of the truck going 70 mph on the highway cause somebody left the bolts loose. I sure would hate to see on come flying at my windsheild.

It isn't my Waggy, but the flexplate/torque converter cover on my Jimmy is sitting on the floorboard. It helps out when the starter hits the section of missing teeth on the flexplate. I just have to get under there and move the flexplate to s section with teeth. (of course this is going to be fixed when I get back) But for now it works. And hasn't been taken off road.....Yet.

You could probably make your own out of some 22 guage sheetmetal from Home Depot...
