My German friend, Holger, has just emailed me pics of his recent successful trip to the Swedish Military surplus auction.

(slightly edited by me to make easier reading)

(I paid) 35.000 swedish krons which is around 3800 euros, about 2500 English pounds. (about $5000)

35 j20's (were) for sale. Every car has temporary plates and insurance for 10 days!!!! Every car was ready to drive and every car was in good condition!! (do you hate him yet?...)

4 or 5 cars were 101% rust free, the others about 97-99% rust free.
when the bidding started i made a mistake. i was thinking that nobody would really bid on the first cars because everbody is waiting to see what happens with the prices. so i bid on the second (one of the 4-5 101%cars) and was sure thats the best way to get a cheap jeep. what a wrong idea...

if i had bidded on one of the last good cars i would have saved 1000 euros. the cheapest of the 35 J trucks was sold for 18.000 krons (around $2600, NOW you hate him, right?).
sweden is a good country to buy cars. we have bought a volvo bertone coupe and a vw buggy- to sell this again in germany.

Now the pics:

Here's the row of J20's:

I knew I should have moved to Germany. Maybe I should, but some of their laws about firearms cover non firearms as illegal weapons, a little bit rediculous. Maybe dual citizenship would be the answer, live in either country as I please. Or maybe I should just go live in Sweden or another Scandinavian country.

Welcome to Sweden!
Rustfree cars in the northern areas only.
These military Jeeps has been stored in military barns, maintained and
driven very little so they are in great shape.
May 18 there is an auction nearby me, but no yankee cars just Volvos
and other boring stuff.

I feel all weak inside... omg I've never seen anything like that... rows and rows of J's... gah. Must be even more of a wow moment given that they are probably not terribly common across the pond, eh?

I am tempted to have my wife translate several phrases into German but I'll be nice :D

You are right, they are not common in Sweden.
I have never seen a civilian J, only military some years ago.
And only a few of them anyhow.
