This is a repost...:D
My steel fuel can is mounted high on the tailgate so that while I haul shrimp:
A. The bumper of a following vehicle won’t hit it.
B. The tailgate can be lowered without removing the can.
C. The fuel is easier to pump to the carburetor.
D. A custom vent and drain tube have been added.
E. The can is plumbed with a hose to the fuel system.
F. Fuel can be easily drained or electrically pumped to other vehicles.
The can is mounted with home made parts.
.... Two ‘U’ shaped cleats bolted to the tailgate keep the bottom up. A small bracket bolted to the tailgate keeps the can from going up. A bolt on metal strap between the top and the tailgate prevents the can from leaning back and holds it in place. A nylon strap is added in case any of the other parts break.
This set-up has stayed together about 15 years
... I had three fuel tanks and they were nice but I removed the 20 gallon tank from the spare tire area. But as noted above, I still have a jerry can and it is plumbed to the fuel system. I have a four way brass fuel line switch that connects the tanks to the Red Top electric pump.
To me the return fuel line is mandatory and is connected to the main tank.
NOTE about the return fuel line. If the main tank is full and you run the auxiliary it will cause the main to over flow. When I use the auxiliary tank it will dump about four gallons into the main tank while the engine uses only uses one gallon then I have to switch back to the main. I really like my fuel set up.
The 20 gallon tank weighed 60 lbs plus fuel and with the jerry can plumbed I didn’t need the fuel and the extra weight.

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..
There was a time when some people got rich buy providing a better product at a lower price.
Now they get rich by ripping us off and paying off the politicians. Can you spell DEREGULATION

speaking of covers, we had one on the back of the 5th wheel that said "are we there yet?" in big blue letters that my uncle made for us. we always got lots of  from passing drivers, especially when we were drove to the east coast and back.

That's cool! What size tire is on that thing?
westexbiker

38.5 and it is all there. The way it is attached to the bumper it makes it easy (as a 38.5 tire can be) to handle. Lots of Grade 8 bolts and backing plates.

Noah,
Once you decide what you want, go see Sheldon at Goferit Offroad http://www.goferitoffroad.com/index.htm He is right in Greensboro and he'll hook you up right. Tell him I sent you. Later..

Hey, i know Sheldon! He built the cage in my cj a while back! Cool guy he is! He has done a couple other things for me too. Super nice guy!
I'm going to go to the scrapyard and get some metal for the rear bumper/ tire carrier soon. DH griffen is the place to go around here for good prices!
I'm going to build this one myself. Since I have a welder and a few metal cutting tools.

Hmmm, kinda like the idea of that one. However i put a 2" reciever on my XJ to get rid of my UK Spec OEM towball (ie; shin cracker), wouldn't want to have a shin cracker back again.

Doubt its what your looking for, but if your running 33x12.50 or smaller it will fit here. I had converted a pathfinder swing away but didn't like the way it sat on there. This keeps the COG a little lower also.
