View Full Version : What intake manifold do I have?
I picked up a edlebroke intake manifold today form a buddy and was trying to figure out which one it was. It's off an amc 401(72 jeep) and a couple of numbers on it are R4B and M4485729. Not sure if any of that helps. Thanks tho.

R4B? That's an older race intake. It is a low riser dual plane intake with a milled section in the divider plane to equalize vacuum. It is mainly used by AMC racers doing SCCA or road course tracks. The dual plane helps build excellent low end torque for pulling out of corners and single plane traits for all out long backstretch high rpm running. It has enough value to AMC racers that you should be able to sell it and be able to pick up a good used Performer intake which is better suited for any FSJ that runs on the street.

TC, the R4B is not a good match for most Jeep engines. It is a higher RPM type, closer to today's Performer Air Gap. If you want to sell it, I am interested. It's a good street/strip manifold for AMC cars. Are you sure it came off a 401 and not a 390? The early 390's had a different deck height and Edelbrock made R4B's for both.
