right now just a driver's side axle but could be interested in more or a complete rear end. at this point i am pretty sure i am going to swap them out completely but due to some time constraints and upcoming surgery can't get into that big of a job right now. just want to get it back going for the summer at this point. i have a junkyard nearby that sells everything but they are ridiculous. last week he wanted $600 for a steering column. i don't even want to know what he would want for a rear end.

If it's a CJ, it's an AMC Corporate 20 rear end (M20) with 2-piece axles. You can buy replacement 1-piece axles for this rear end; it's a common upgrade for the CJ axle. You can make it live longer with the original axles by religiously keeping the axle nuts tight (retorque often!).

A stock M20 from a CJ is a throwaway part for any serious builder. If you check around on the CJ boards, you should be able to find one for cheap. Buying private party will always be cheaper than from a yard.

The M20 from a FSJ has different axles (1-piece), longer and heavier axle tubes, and different ratios. Unless you want a wider axle, you need an axle from a CJ.

thx for the info. do you have the links to any of the cj boards you mentioned? i have never seen them. usually come here for my jeep info even though i have a cj since so many parts are still the same.

www.southernjeeps.org (http://www.southernjeeps.org) will be a good resource for you plus most of those folks will be fairly local to you. What kinda steering column you need?:D
