Texas A&M offroad put on their fifth annual Texas Club Challenge at Katemcy Rocks this past weekend. There were like ~140 rigs there! It was awesome. I made it until the late afternoon Saturday when a crack in my freshly put together tcase re-appeared, but I kept wheeling, and it broke the whole front output side off, leaving a chain dangling beneith. 2H and 2L got me off the trail, but it was beer thirty anyway.

Oh don't start that crap. I've met 2 sooners at the Cotton Bowl after the 3 years I've been that were shy of @$$holes. Other than those 2, all Sooner fans are @$$holes that I've met. There may be some that aren't, but I haven't met them. Of course its a rivalry, but still. At least we're 2/4 while I've been going here. And one led to a Championship. :D Besides, we're 59-37-5 against OU.

My videos on YouTube? I don't know about those! What videos?

Looks like its time to drop those axle gears down where they belong, take some stress off that poor t-case ;)

Sweet picts.

I'm about to do some major changes here pretty soon. Cage, tcase permanent fix, etc. ;)

So apparently, there's a video of me on YouTube. I didn't know about it, but it's not that impressive anyway. He got the beginning of the climb. It was later when I climbed something impressive, which this guy got distracted with smaller jeeps and videoed elsewhere. Oh well. This video proves I need to be able to see better and get lower gears.

Nice. I really like the way that thing looks, all hunkered down and, well, slick. lol. I see you could really use much lower gears, and set that bumper back to improve your approach angle. What is your tcase plan?

Slick Willie
05-01-2007, 10:55 PM
Well, the bumpers are welded on, so not much adjustment there. The only thing I could do is reverse shackle to move the front axle forward ~2".

I've been looking real hard into a doubler settup, but I can't find (if it's even possible) 3:1 gears in any 203, and no one makes a Ford 205 with 3:1 gears, so I'm going to pass on that and get a 3 speed Stak box for my preferred gearing options. I wanted 1, 2, 3, and 6:1 tcase options, but since that's not even possible with a driver drop gear/iron tcase, I'll settle with 1, 3.05, and 5.44:1 tcase options.

I'll update on all that later after the work has begun.

Two Words---- Boise State! (Greatest Game I've Ever Seen)

Slick Willie your Jeep looks AWESOME (except the letters on the windshield, GO Red Raiders). I hope I can make the Ketemcy Run one of these days. To bad about the t-case. Get it fixed and keep on rockin'.

That Boise State game was freakin' awesome. Statue of Liberty...who does that anymore? We've wheeled with your Tech Offroad boys a few times. The president used to go to UT before he moved back home and started Tech Offroad. I'll be back in no time, no worries. I have another 208 to piece together before I go again, but by then, I should have an upgrade mounted up. :D

Nice pics! Looks nice and low to fit 40s. Is it an SOA or what lift? Nice fender chop too, looks OEM.

Hey Willie,
What are the dimensions of your front bumper? Is that 2x6 tubing or something else? Do you have any pictures of the mounts? Thanks.

John

That's SOA for the front, and imboarded 3 pack Chevy 63" springs for the rear. Once I fix the shackle angle, the rear will rise a couple inches. I know, I know...the fenders are horrific. I'll dress them up soon enough.

The front bumper is 2 x 6 x 1/4" that I built. It originally had two pieces of angle iron welded to it with holes drilled for bolts. It bolted to the frame on a different Wag, but it wouldn't line up for my new Wag, so I ended up cutting the frame a little and cutting the brackets down a little, and welding it on the front part of the frame. Here's a bracket pic. You can see how it slides over the frame and bolts on (well, it did).

Yeah we have a small 4x4 club here and a few of them talk with the Tech Offroad guys and they mentioned that they were making a trip down to Ketemcy. Wish I could made it. I watched an offroad video that was taped there, the grip everyone was getting on the rocks was unbelieveable.

:Dawesome! ALL that with a stock 360 and 4.10's!

FYI: in the first issue of "4x4garage" by primedia there was a transfer case upgrade section hat listed a 3:1 low range available for the NP203 box. I'll look into it.

The rag listed Wagoner Machine Shop as the builder for the NP203 3:1 low range, but I believe Wagoner was bought out and renamed not long ago.

Yeah, it's Sumner Machine now, and they apparently don't make the 203's with 3:1 anymore. I'm moving on. I go find a Rare High Pinion Ford Dana 60, and now I can't get the doubler settup I want. :banghead: Oh well, it'll just cost more to get what I want. I'll keep the board updated.

Don't give up on those 203 gears just yet... I'll try to get ahold of some info for you.

man, that high-pinion Ford 60 could be sold to cover a GM passenger drop 60 with a few hundred$$ left over to help fund the doubler of your choice. I'd consider it since you haven't re-geared yourHP 60 yet. It would save you $$$ and :banghead:

4.10 geared GM or Dodge 60 front approx. $1000
complete 203/205 doubler approx.:$1600

average value of a HP60 $1500-2000

I actually know of a guy in Kennedale that has 1-ton 60's off of a '92 Dodge single wheel truck for a grand. The front may need a pinion bearing and if you didn't want/need the rear 60 I'd pitch in some $$$ and take it.

Just trying to help:thumbsup:

nice pics man!! i was there at katemcy that same weekend. that was some serious carnage. when did you break??-----BRIAN

05-07-2007, 01:21 AM
Dang it Sinjin! I can't get rid of my $2000 axle. It's just too sexy. :D Besides, it bolted right up.

5.38's if anything, but that still would only get me a 34:1 low. That's not low enough for my wants or the tires.

Brian, I don't remember seeing you there! J-10 truggy on 42's? I broke around 4:15 Saturday, had a flat rear about 4:20, but got off the trail ok with 2L thanks to beadlocks and my locked rear axle. Beer consumption commenced soon after though.

you'll be amazed at how well it crawl with the lower gears! but i am like you i think i still need to slow my tires down a bit more;)

i did not take my truggy. it is not finished yet. it is getting close!!! i was with a friend that had a grey cherokee on 36 in. swampers on it and no ft. doors. did you break it by baby hueys crack? i think i saw you do it. i saw you high centered and some people rocking it back and forth. nice rig!!

Slick Willie

Oh ok, I saw that Cherokee out there. He asked if I had a quadratrac or something; I don't know what he was yelling. If you watch that video on the previous page of this thread, you can hear him yelling at me. It was right past that where I was tooling around. My spotter wasn't the best, as you could tell from the high center that you witnessed, and the picture of me almost flopped on my driver side from climbing that rock for no reason. I guess it made a good picture though. :D

But no, at that point, I had already noticed the crack, but it hadn't fell apart yet. It was about an hour after that when it spit the driveshaft onto the ground. I quit early last time when the case cracked, so this time, I was going until it couldn't go. At the end of both days, I still had a tcase that couldn't be repaired. Mine as well have fun with it.

Posted this over on the doubler thread... I talked to John Sumner and he's fixing to have the 3.2:1 NP203 gears in production again in a couple months.

Thanks Elliott, I've been trying to call them too, but I kept getting busy signals. You were holding up the lines so long! :D

4:1 won't do it for me. Or a tranny rebuild to bump my 2.45 to a 2.74. :D

i noticed something in the video about it stalling out! if you'll lower the fuel level in the fuel bowl a bit it wont slosh so much and stall it!
