I am going to pick up my winch at summit this weekend (75-52000C) in atlanta.
Yes 12,000lbs:D
Is there anything else that I will need for this install? Are you happy with yours?
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I can't believe no one has a comment about these. Bueller, Bueller?

I have looked into them. Not sure if I am going with one or not. Haven't read much good or bad on Pirate.
The fact that the US military puts them on Hummers initally swayed me but after a couple of reads about it... the thought that the government would give the bid to the lowest bidder might just be the case. I have since thought about doing a Warn hydraulic winch. Still unsure at this point.
Do some searching before you purchase... don't just read the MM site and take it for face value.

I've got the Hi10500 and have run it for a couple of years now. It is slow, no doubt about it, but the nice thing is that I always have winch but no one ever asks me to be the winch truck on the trail.
It has seemed to exacerbate the age of my P/S pump and I'm planning to run a 20 gpm hydraulic pump and 5-10 gallon reservoir. Once that is done, the winch should run faster than an 8274.

Thanks a lot. I can't find a lot of info either from users. I've heard that Hydrolics last longer then electric. I'm ignoring the mm website. That's why I posted it in here.

That's actually very interesting about the speed. Thanks. Hard to find any info from users.
Do you like it? Any issues?
I feel that most people like to complain so I am taking that little info is good news.
Yes the military uses them, they meet the same general spec as the HD 8000# Ramsey which is also used. Either winch is a good piece of equipment, but the hydro is possibly overkill for occaisional use. Electrics have a much faster no load line speed, which is nice on the trail, but the hydro has a 100% duty cycle, so it will run all day.
I would suggest talking to AGR about a higher capacity power steering pump if you plan to use the winch extensively. Also, don't cut corners on the plumbing. Go to your local airport, NAPA/Weatherhead store, or good forklift shop and spend the bucks to have some pissed-off heavy duty hydraulic lines made.

I love my 10, 500 2 speed, its fast with no to light load in high gear, slow in low but so are the electrics I have seen.. I run a AGR pump and a extra stock tranny cooler for a power steering cooler with a electric fan on it, I can winch all day, under water, doesnt care, hasnt failed to pull out any vehicle yet, and I havent had to use a snatch block yet.. I had all custom hoses made, sometimes its a little tricky to get it to shift, have to rock it from forward to reverse a couple of times and it will click in...
You can make them real fast though with better pumps look here...

Well I got it. It's a lot lighter then I thought It would be. Oh yea, no coils for a motor. I hope to have a bumper done by the time eci comes around. That gives me a month.
Over all the form and fit appear to be pretty nice. The outer 2 housings are forged steel. For being chinesee I'm impressed (and I have a engineering overseas sourcing background). The winch was packaged nicely. The only thing they could have dome better is the instructions. The hoses are deffinetly not high end. I may have some made.
I'll provide pics as I get closer to getting a bumper and installing it.

Curious to hear how it works out.
At least with an electric you can run the winch (for a little while) without the engine running... altho ideally you're not alone and someone else has a winch and a running truck... ;) Can always use the hi-lift as a come along... which would really annoy me if I spent good $ on a winch...
Donno... does the stock PS pump have enough beef to run one of these? Seems like you'd want to do some mods like oil cooler, at a minimum? I don't have a lot of luck keeping fluid in my PS pump but I do have pretty good luck keeping the magic smoke in my electrical system :D
I've had my winch for years but have only used it a very few times for whatever reason. 99% of the time a hi lift and/or strap get it done for the kind of wheeling I've been doing.

One of the guys in my Scout club has one of these winches and really likes it. The only downfall I see to them is that your engine has to be running for them to work. For me it just isnt worth it not to be able to use the winch if I grenade a engine. On his truck he swapped out the power steering pump with one from a GM 1 ton truck that had hydroboost to get some extra power. He also put in a remote fluid reservoir from a astro mini van to add more fluild to keep it cool.

Follow the link already listed tons of info from our brothers across the water
You can also check out this one although it isn't about winches per se the guy races his truck in Europe and gives his reason for using the hydraulic winch

Unless you have a Prius' worth of batteries under your hood, you won't be able to do much with an electric without your engine running either.
If you blow your engine, thats why wreckers have (typically hydraulic) winches.

Is it over kill...Yes. I always believe in having more then you think you'll need.
But, with everything there are goods and bads. I already had one fire due to oil and electricity mixing with grass clipings so I don't want to add more electrical current.
As for speed. I'm not going to race the wag. But I do like the idea of upgrading to a arg pump (whatever the brand is).

HMMM... I already have a second P/S on my plow truck, and a hydro winch from an old well pulling truck... if I only had time to play with all this stuff.:D
