Once it chips off like it has a tendency to do you can paint over the bare metal underneath. ;)

I used it on my yj several years ago. if the surfave is prepped right and you have enough coats it should not chip. the only place i needed to fix was the drivers side floor.
after about a year the gloss fads

I've used Herculiner & Duraback before. Followed all the prep for the heculiner, and it came right off the first time I dragged a piece of over it. The Durabak stuck no matter how you abused it and it was also alot thicker going on. I'd use the Duraback again, wouldn't touch the herculiner again.
Here's the link for Duraback: http://www.nonslipcoating.com/

Yup, used Herculiner on my YJ about five years ago. I used the Red herculiner. Took the interior out, followed the prep instructions exactly, and have been pleased with it. The only problem I've had is a 90 degree angle at the rear seat is, and the kids sit while offroading. They've rubbed through the Herculiner.
I don't think it would take paint well, but, it is available in some colors.

Just got the Herculiner kit today and have Q's but didn't want to start a parralell thread, sry for the hijack.
What should I do to prep floorpans covered in surface rust short of grinding down to the metal? Also, what should be done to prep the painted areas?

if it is just surface rust, treat it with por 15 or any of the rust converters that are out there. for the painted area use a wire brush to roughen the surface and take off any gloss.
both ways....clean with acetone or paint thinner
what i did and it worked for me

Ah yes, hootis paint, AKA Herculiner! I've never used it myself, but I've considered using either it or Durabak. I'll probably go the durabak route, if I ever do it at all.

There is a clear topcoat from Herculiner that can be applied to keep it shiny. I still have a bottle in my garage, as the Scrambler got all muddy before we had a chance to apply it.:D
