A person who has an 83 Chero WT w/ 258/909?/229 ( I checked under her rig, it's 229 ). Once it's warmed up, she has to be on the gas and the brake at the same time, otherwise it dies out. What do you guys think is wrong? I haven't dealt w/ 258's so I don't know. TIA

Choke maybe not opening fully after it's warmed up?
The BBD carbs are also notorious for clogged idle tubes. If someone else doesn't post them first I'll dig up and email you a couple of URL's with BBD fix info regarding the idle tubes

Raise the idle to 1500 until you can get the carb cleaned. Common problem.

EDIT: erm..on 2nd thought, this may not work with an auto, because it will bang into gear.

ok, so that would be the main problem? the lever from the pedal to open the carb is loose on the arms, and someone told her it needs bushings? Would that hold true?

I found the URL's quicker than I thought so here they are. These are "must reads" for anyone with a Carter BBD "especially" if it's the computer controlled version which you friends 83 is.

If it does it after it warmes up it could also be the idle is set too low, or there is a vacuum leak that only happens when a temperature controlled vacuum switch opens(these are the "vacuum trees" screwed into the intake manifold) such as the air cleaner dashpot, the advance dashpot on the distributor, and the smog pump/equipment vacuum actuator. Seconding the vaucume issue... check with vacume guage.

Vac leak would get my vote , you can get a propane torch ( not lit ) open the valve and trace the vac hoses with the engine at idle. When the revs puck up you have found a leak.

had this problem. solved it by disconnecting the vac lines to the temperature dashpot on the back of the aircleaner and plugging the line, this shuts off the heat riser i think. I also put constant vac to the fresh air valve on the aircleaner. need to get this fixed before winter really sets in though, because ice on the throttle plates sucks.
