Well I am doin the planning for my Waggy now, and I have seen around here that people have mentioned re-gearing for bigger tires. I plan on 33s, and will be doing light wheeling, and a bit of road driving. Some interstate, but mostly 25-45 mph. What kind of gearing change, if any, would I need to do?

3.73 to 4.10 should work out for you. the 3.73 if alot of highway and the 4.10 if most is going to be slow crawl type stuff. You prob have either 3.54 or 3.07 in there now as stock, look before doing anything and see what performance is.

I run 33's and 3.73:1 gears. RPMs are basically the same as the stock 235's and 3.31:1's. As heavy as the tires are I probably lose a little power, however. I just didn't want the slightly higher rpm's of 4.10's but I probably would've gained what I lost with tire weight.

If you have a tach it will give you a better idea of what rpms you want to run at hwy speeds.

regearing from 3.54 to 3.73 is a waste of money. Either stay where you are (good for HWY, but less power) or go to 4.10's.

we ran 33s under my dads Cherokee Chief until the flood washed it away.
it was a '78 w/t, no lift (actually it had to be 1-2 inches lower than stock) and boy would those 33s tuck way up into those fenders nicely. never rubbed, EVER, and my dad would take it over some pretty serious rocks. however, as soon as we put the 33s on, the front end would make a popping sound when you sould turn

Yep...Ditto that. 4.10s would be great for 33s. And, if you wanted to go with bigger tires in the furure, the 4.10s would work for up to 35 inch tires.

Most likely from the wider tires having more turning resistance causing the springs to move back and forth in the hangers.

the carrier break is 3.92 on the dana 44s, right?
thats something to consider

Right. But, he could also go to thick gears instead of swapping the carriers.
