Any idea how to remove an engine block heater from a 258. Saw one at a yard today that I thought I might be able to use, but have no idea how to get it out.
There is a screw in the middle, but it doesn't seem to come all the way out, just loosens up. Its near the rear of the engine, I think replacing a normal freeze plug.
Doubt I'd ever have a REAL need to use the heater, but if its not hard to get out, figure it couldn't hurt to have it.
thanks

The screw is what holds in the block heater...
Kind of like a plant hook thru a drywall ceiling.

They're not that expensive... besides they can short out over time, so there is no telling if it still works. It's recomended to use a block heater only when the temp drop below 20F.

I lived in North Dakota for 6 yrs and had a block heater in all my vehicles. Had to..since most of the winter is below Zero.

Boy, they can be tough! I had one when I rebuilt that sounds similar to yours...I tried everything to get that sucker out...finally I just let the machine shop pull it...Good Luck!
