I have a 1974 J10 w/the 258 6 cyl, all stock as far as I know except for an inline block/water heater thats located on one of the water lines to the heater core. from there it T's off and is routed by hose around the back of the block and then into the block on the drivers side. My question is this a stock routing for the coolant or was this detour have something to do with the block/water heater. reason I'm asking is that the block/water heater doesnt work and I want to just pull it out. can I just run the hose straight from the water pump to the heater core or is the "detour" around the back of the motor and into the block on the drivers side, the way it's supposed to go. Does that make any sense? Thanks.

It should be routed from the water pump to the heater core and then out of the heater core into the block.

Can I just remove this line and cap it where it goes into the block?

I've never heard of a 258 with the extra hose from the back of the block. Sounds like somebody tapped a freeze plug to maybe help the block heater circulate better. I'd look and see if its coming out of a freeze plug or block plug and install a new one in place. The freeze plugs are big round plugs in the side of the block that press in and the block plugs are small threaded pipe plugs. Also on the side of the eng.

All you need for the heater is the 2 outlets up front.

It should go from the heater core to the top of your intake. It sounds like the PO must have done some modifications to hook up that block/water heater. You should be able to cap it where it goes into the block but, I don't know without looking at it. Hope that helps.

That sound really strange, As far as I know the water should come from the pump to the heater core, through the core and into the back of the intake manifold. it then travels from the intake manifold (front of it) and back to the water pump. No T's or anything like that. And not directly into the block (except for the pump and thermostat)

thanks Y'all for the info. I'll look closer this weekend when I can pull the jeep into the garage(dont you hate your S/O trying to lay claim on your garage? they have every other dang room in the house????) I thought it might just be some P/O modifications!!! Thanks again!!
