Hi All. I have been battling an issue with my Edelbrock Carb for about 4 weeks. Everyonce and a while when it is cold, it starts fine, then it dies a few minutes later. I check to see if fuel is getting to the carb, it is. Well no fuel squirts, no go. So next I am thinking it is a stuck float needle. Take the top off the carb and pull the needle and wipe it down. Voila runs good for a week. Well now it does it about every three or four days. Now to my real question. Today it did it again. This time after priming and priming it finally started. I noticed it smoked all the way down the road, white/blue smoke. Drove on and it continued. I am thinking it was unburned fuel. Anyway it did get better but what the heck is going on. When I start it now it puffs blue/white smoke. And it hesitates like crazy when cold. Does this mean lean or rich on the mixture? Choke problems? Float problems? Or should I give up and call Edelbrock since the carb is two months old. Motor sounds fine. No tap no knock. Any ideas will be helpful. Oil pressure seems lower than normal.
Thanks guys.

Electric choke? After it warms up, open the choke all the way with your hand, engine should smooth out and the smoke should stop. Thats about all i have to offer ;) My chero seems to do the same thing.

Smoke from excess fuel would be black. With white/blue smoke it sounds like you may have a leaking intake. What does the oil look/smell like??
Kinda sounds like you may have two things going on. Fuel delivery and something else. What kind of fuel pump are you using? Stock mechanical? How old? How about the filter. Is it clean and have the return at the top?

It definately sounds like carb probs but other then that i don't know. My 1405 is sticking now in the mornings. One word of advice, Put an inline filter between the tank and fuel pump. This stops any trash from your tank getting into your fuel pump.

Reddog-
I have a new fuel pump and there is fuel getting to the carb. As far as leaking intake, How would I check that. It ran fine this morning. No smoke at all. I adjusted my choke and did not have any problems. The filter is new also. Spoke to Edelbrock this morning and they said tear that thing open and check for trash in the bowl. So I will do that tonight. Other than that I do not know. The oil has a fuel smell like it is dumping too much gas. So I will check the float operation.
MudThrasher- What is yours acting like when it is sticking? Run really rough? Die? Did the additional filter help?
Thanks guys for the replies.

Manifold is kinda hard to "Check" without pulling it. When you said the smoke was white/blue my thought was oil and/or water getting into the cylinders. Running rich produces black smoke, oil blue and water white (usually). If the oil smells of fuel change it asap and see what happens after you check the carb/float. I missed the part in your first post where you said fuel is getting to the carb, I only say the part about no squirting.
A small puff of smoke upon initial start is no big deal but continued smoke means something is going on.

Thanks Reddog. I will mess with it tonight. I would not be worried if it was at start up. But this was a cloud. Could not see out my rear mirror for a while. It went away, I know I was reving it kind of hard trying to get the carb cleared out, maybe some oil got past the valve guides. I do not know. Have not had the problem today. No smoke on startup either. But I have leaned out the choke. I will pull the top tonight and change the oil and let you know. Thanks again.
